I have 4 DVD Drives beside that Buffallo BlueRay drive. 2 of them have additional power connector. I will check tonight if they work with a computer and get back to you. With the Buffallo Drive I can only read the songs from the CD but so far no playback.
Any drive that you would recomment?

Mine is USB DVD Drive, model below.
It used to work even powered only by the RPi, but then I started connecting more things to the RPi and occasionally it was giving power issues as more things were drawing current.
Decided to use a powered USB hub and had no issues since then.

I have never tried it on a Mac Mini, but the plugin is built following the official guides, so if all other plugins works, I don’t see why cdplayer wouldn’t. Does the Mac Mini have internal drive or USB drive? Are you comfortable in connecting via ssh to the machine?
