Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce my new Volumio plugin, currently available in the Beta plugin store:

Pirate Audio Screensaver

This plugin is made for Pimoroni Pirate Audio displays using the ST7789 screen.

What does it do?

When Volumio is idle, the plugin displays a clock screensaver on the Pirate Audio screen.

When playback starts again, the display is released so the normal Pirate Audio screen can come back.

Features

  • Idle clock screensaver
  • Automatic switch back when music/radio starts playing
  • Configurable idle delay
  • Configurable display rotation
  • Settings saved after reboot
  • Runs as a local systemd service
  • Runtime installed inside the plugin folder

How to install

The plugin is currently in Beta.

To see beta plugins:

  1. Open:

volumio.local/dev

  1. Enable Beta / Test plugins

  2. Go to:

Plugins → User Interface

  1. Install:

Tested on

  • Volumio 4 Bookworm
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Pimoroni Pirate Audio ST7789 display

Feedback welcome

This is my first Volumio plugin, so feedback is very welcome.

If you have a Pirate Audio display and can test it, please let me know:

  • your Raspberry Pi model
  • your Volumio version
  • whether installation works correctly
  • whether the screensaver starts after idle
  • whether the display returns correctly when playback starts
