PiFi Digi+ IR receiver not working

I bought a PiFi Digi+ HAT to use with my Benchmark DAC. The digital output works fine.

I was hoping to use the PiFi’s IR receiver with an Apple remote, but the IR seems dead. Here is what I have done:

  • /boot/config.txt has: dtoverlay=lirc-rpi:gpio_in_pin=26
  • I also have the Kuman Digi case. All pictures of the case I’ve seen make me think that the hole in the side of the case is where the IR receiver is (I do not know what a naked IR receiver looks like). They also show no ‘HAT bolt’ installed where the IR is. So I removed that bolt. Still doesn’t work.
  • I have aimed the IR receiver everywhere at the case (even ‘lrw’ showed no response).

Is the IR broken, or is there something else I can try?
