Pi hanging at logon

Im confused as im following the procedure to install a cut down image from the company to the pi to run it up and access the Internet. I get the companys logo etc but it hangs at the password. I assume that the logon is required to link my pi with my account ive opened otherwise i could piggyback on anyones account? There is some step ive missed im sure but its not in the pocedure.

If you boot your rPi with a new image, you need to connect the rPi to your network and connect via a webbrowser on your computer.
so default you use the assigned <ip-address>.local or use volumio.local

You can also use the Volumio app on iOS or Android to do the set up, it will guide you through the steps. Just make sure that your phone/tablet is connected to the same network as your pi.

Iā€™m now logged on to my pi, ive ditched the volumio image and installed latest OS for pi4. Ive run the app and the pi is connected to the same network but it dosent see it. Possible becuase its just an internet connection via my router rarther than a desiccated network?

Do you mean that you have installed Raspberry Pi OS instead of Volumio?

Perhaps the volumio app should not be named or referred to as ā€˜volumioā€™ because it is not a volumio application, it is a sophisticated ā€˜volumio remote controllerā€™.

yes, as it was hanging its possible the file was corrupt so back to basics. the software is image is a cut down of the OS for pi but Iā€™m not certian what specific software from volomio has been left out - if any

im using the app as constrained by the inputs it provides so yes i believe that assumption is good

Quite a few were left out, Volumio has its own, downsized number of Debian OS packages, only those needed to run Volumio and just enough additions to control and maintain it. It is more or less the same for other Volumio supported arm boards and x86.

I could buy another card and try again with the image and flash that - Ill do that tomorrow and let you know how I get onā€¦

Finally got there. I replaced the pi3 that I was using with a 4 recently and also added a hifiBerry DAC HD. The result is great and since i also imaged the Oct software update the result is a much faster GUI and interface than HIFiBerryā€™s OS. I can give the product a good 9ā€¦ searching now for hi resolution radio stations etc so hopefully a 10 soonā€¦:slight_smile:
