Partition and Mount NVMe M.2 2280 Internal SSD

Hi…
I am attempting to Mount an internal NVMe M.2 2280 Internal SSD Drive on a Raspberry Pi Device.
(a Pi 2 Design Mercury Streamer). I want the drive to serve as a place for a music library that I can have on the Volumio Menu and utilize it for playback of my music files.
I am a Mac User and struggling…but I am using Putty and have a Linux command window connecting to my Volumio/Mercury Device. I have been able to locate my drive and get its name.
When I try to use a Linux Partition Command (Please see below), I am getting an “fstab” error.
(I have no idea what fstab is)
Can anyone make a suggestion for a newbie/dummie  THANKS!
Programming Error:
volumio@bobs-volumio:~$ sudo parted -a opt /dev/nvme0n1 mkpart primary ext4 0% 100%
sudo: unable to resolve host bobs-volumio: System error
Information: You may need to update /etc/fstab.

You may look over @ audiophilestyle , where experienced Mercury users for sure will help you ,sell you a manual or some fstab snake oil. :grinning:

HI there,
I also have a Mercury2 and was wanting to use the available NVME slot to store music but have not been able to find a good instruction set. Did you ever solve things? Are there any issues with powering a NVME drive off the Mercury board?

Hi Matt….
I have to tell you…I just gave up on that. Life is too short. My conclusion is that The Mercury is for PC users…not MAC users. I have the original Mercury, but I don’t think that matters. Maybe I am just not that bright.:man_shrugging:t2: I had to use about 4 different softwares to get my MAC to talk to the Mercury to attempt to use the SSD. The hoop jumping was extreme. I was able to find the SSD after many, many hours of trying (don’t remember how I accomplished that and frankly…don’t care.), but could never figure out how to load files on it.
Also, for me using an iPad with Volumio/Qobuz sucks. It constantly lags, drops me… If I go to another app on my iPad and come back to it when I have music playing Volumio spins and spins….I have to reboot it sometimes.
I bought a year subscription to Volumio…. So I am in no hurry….but I am going to dump The Mercury, pick up an EverSolo DMP-A6 (or similar EverSolo product). Utuber iiwi Reviews says it’s a better sound-quality streamer than The Mercury, has a GREAT front display, has a super responsive interface and I can put my never-used SSD in it. It cost about as much as the current Mercury…so I will be moving on.
Streaming and DAC tech is moving at such a fast pace it’s hard to keep up!
Wish that I had some positive info for ya, but I am just giving it to you straight. :slightly_smiling_face:
I will say that when I am playing hi-rez Qobuz thru The Mercury that it sounds quite excellent.

Someone there patiently tried to help me find and load the SSD, but…seems to me to try to get a Mac to do that is just futile. Life is too short! LOL!

 I was ok with Mac: got SSH working fine and managed to sort through a few configuration issues on both my Allo USBridge and the Mercury but my knowledge is limited to the things I have picked up sorting out those things and nothing so far has left me any ideas on the drive. Your are dead right on the EverSolo DMP-A6 - I think if that had turned up before I bought the Mercury I’d have been tempted to go that way! Frustrating thing is there is a drive slot in the Mercury so clearly the idea was to put one in…
