Why does it seem I am now going to end up with two plans? A premium plan (for all my other DIY streamers running Volumio) and now my actual Volumio Primo …on Superstar Plan…(when I work out how to add it… I never got a code or anything…) that can’t multiroom with these other devices running Volumio? (That can’t be right… surely…)
I have to stay on the premium subscription even though I thought purchasing a new Volumio Primo would convert me to not having to pay the subscription?
Call me naive (and I’ve contacted the zen desk for confirmation)… but seriously?… what gives here? Thanks.
I love Volumio Premium… so much so…I just purchased a Volumio Primo Streamer - assuming that gave me a lifetime subscription to this plan and all the advantages that Volumio Premium has to offer…
Seems like that assumption was incorrect?.. even though it clearly says on the website "a Superstar Lifetime Plan (which is bundled with a Volumio Primo Streamer) is and I quote “the same as Premium Plan”… (so was I dupped?)
(See my first post)
So how often do these “Lifetime Volumio Premium subscriptions” come around? Is there one due shortly? thanks
Hi there and thanks for adding me to the community forum
I’ve been slowly migrating (and upgrading) my 8 room multi room audio away from Sonos and 12-18 months ago I chose Volumio (along with Roon) to do that…
So far, I have converted 3 rooms using Rasp Pi’s and an old X86PC into an old dac or 2 I had lying around.
I’ve been paying for Volumio Premium and have been using Roon and I love Qobuz …so it’s been going great …
Today I purchased a Volumio PrimoV2 for the 4th room I have removed Sonos. One of the main listening areas. Great product, but I have to say I am a little shocked that even though it;s advertised as “coming with Volumio Premium”… it actually doesn’t seem to come with the entire premium multiroom capabilities?
Have posted another post for clarification
Hopefully I can buy a few more Volumio Streamers for the better equiped rooms but I must say I am reluctant if they don’t actually come with a proper Volumio Premium lifetime subscription?..
All Volumio hardware includes a full Premium license for that specific device. This license is tied to the device and cannot be transferred to other Raspberry Pis, unlike a paid Premium subscription, which can be used on up to six devices.
If you want to use features such as Multiroom on additional devices, you will need a Premium subscription for those devices.
Yes. thanks for that… I now realise that (having synced them all in the app)… I have to say that was not made obvious in the pre purchase research I did… both on here, on their website (maybe it was lost in translation?) and my audio dealer certainly had zero idea…
…this is the bit that was lost in translation… I mean what are Volumio implying?.. that you can have the full Premium “multiroom” experience just using one device?
I’m just a forum moderator, so I can’t comment on what Volumio meant to imply.
However, Multiroom requires at least two devices. It’s a Premium feature, so the second device also needs Premium access. A Premium license included with Volumio hardware only covers that specific device and cannot be transferred to another Raspberry Pi.
Sure… seems like semantics and a word salad to me… without getting to interpretational about it all (I’ll wait see what Volumio themselves have to add)… seems a little petty to me…
I mean if that is the case it will certainly put me off buying more of their (physical) products…
Why would a company do such a thing to a definite fan boy of their software>?
Don’t understand this line. If you have two PrimoV2 for example they will do multiroom, just not on your free DIY devices, without a proper subscription.
It’s the same as buying a sportscar for the track, so you can race. This doesn’t mean you get a 2nd car to race?
Why would I roll out 5 more Volumio products (and throw away all the other non volumio hardware running the software that I have tried and tested for near on 12 months)? Do they want me to buy anymore of their hardware? Or not? If not, I’ll simply buy more pi’s for the rest of the house…
Last I checked you can’t buy a (life time) Premium subscription?.. well not at the moment anyway… my take?.. best not to argue with a brand new volumio fanboy who loves their software and has just launched into buying one of their products (and actually wants to buy a few more). And has come here providing feedback and to seek clarification and simply asks what a Premium subscription is supposed to be used for? I don’t write the webpages… and am more than happy to provide screenshots in plain English (if it has to come to that)
Hi @volumiolover, thanks for asking! We no longer offer lifetime Premium licenses, so there won’t be any new lifetime promotions. Premium is now available as a subscription, and all Volumio’s latest devices (Rivo, Primov2, Preciso and the others) include the Premium features at no additional cost.
Sure. Thanks for replying… now I have had the replies above and have used the Primo a day, I am starting to understand the difference between the “Premium features” (clearly not all of them) as you call them (say ability to be seen as a Qobuz connect device) and “Premium subscription” (license). Can I be so bold as to suggest this difference was not very made clear on the website?
This as of today 25th Oct (and has been) on the website under the sales pitch for the Primo Streamer…
I (logically) assumed that this meant a Volumio Premium Subscription was included…
“Every Volumio Streamer provides access to Volumio Premium features on the device”
Again I logically assumed the “Volumio Premium” features referred to in this statement would include the ability to multiroom with all other players in a multiroom Volumio set up…(given one of the key advertised features of Volumio Premium is Multiroom capability)
To clarify: the Premium features included with Volumio devices let you manage and use multiroom across Volumio devices. To also include third-party devices running Volumio, such as a Raspberry Pi or a PC, a Premium subscription is needed.
We’re passing your feedback on to our team, so this can be made clearer on the website.
Hey thanks for passing back my feedback. Appreciate it. As a means to sell more of your products I have another question for you… Tell me … why wouldn’t you be providing a lifetime Premium Subscription (along with a Volumio hardware product) to people who have tried your software out using Pis etc as an incentive for them to purchase your hardware? And add even more in a multiroom setup…
Seems like a no brainer to me… I don’t actually get that? It doesn’t make any business sense to me what so ever… Anyway. Rock on Volumio.
Thanks @volumiolover, we really appreciate you sharing it.
A bit of background: when the first Primo came out, Volumio was still a small startup, and that product, together with the people who believed in it early on, helped us grow into the range we offer today.
The way it works now, each Volumio device comes with the Premium features built in for its whole lifetime, including multiroom with other Volumio devices, with no subscription needed. So if you want to expand your setup room by room, adding Volumio devices gives you the full experience without any extra cost. The Premium subscription is there as an option for those who prefer to run Volumio on their own hardware, such as a Raspberry Pi.
