Hello
I have a question for which I did not find the answser in the various posts. Is there a possibility to go back to the previous situation I.E. having Spotify connect working without lossless ?
I didnt see the possibility to downgrade the quality in Spotify app on my phone in order to have Spotify connect working…
After Reboot plugin spotify is not active, must be re-authorized in plugin settings to work.
any fix?
Volumio X86 v4.073
Nobody with same issue?
Yes more people have reported this. It’s on their list to solve.
really don’t understand volumio policy. new volumio 4 version so hype so featured and spotify stuck? to have decent system you must pay for volumio subscription , otherwise qobuz no available, BT not available, cdplayer no available… and simple spoty with bug… Should we had to listen webradio or chose other “free” player solutions?
Hey ! @volumio @nerd @Wheaten and all other Forum members.
I recently quit my Spotify subscription as I don’t like their attitude towards Volumio. I really can’t understand why they don’t let Volumio to integrate lossless playback.
Maybe they would aloud it if lossless playback only are integrated in Volumio premium like Tidal and Qobuz? I don’t know.
I used Spotify mainly to find new music so it really doesn’t matter for me as for now.
So what are your suggestions for me to go and why? Qobuz or Tidal?
Best Regards / C
That’s a tough question: Tidal vs Qobuz.
I’ve always leaned toward Qobuz (never hide it on this forum, even though they never gave me a free subscription
).
If your priority is quality masters, supporting artists with slightly better payouts and human-curated music journalism and storytelling, Qobuz is the way to go.
On the other hand, if you want extra features like music videos and Spatial Audio, then Tidal is your best bet.
I moved from Spotify to Tidal a few months ago. Quality improvement is huge. I’ve also been trialling Qobuz and it’s as good, but not better sounding vs Tidal to my ears. I prefer Tidal for the slightly better range of obscure/recent small bands. I prefer the app as well. Either would be a substantial upgrade from Spotify and away from a company that is so unfair to (especially small-medium sized) artists.
How about their music catalogs? Are they similar or have on of them lot more artists, albums and so on? I’m only interested in music playback so for me spatial sound, videos etc are not of any interest for me. I’m only interested in good sounding playback.

I have pretty obscure tastes in music and Tidal has everything so far. Qobuz has most, but not all. The cool thing is that you can test both for a month for free.
Library Size
- Tidal: ~110+ million tracks plus 650,000 music videos and exclusive video content.
- Qobuz: ~100+ million tracks, focused on Hi-Res audio and downloadable purchases.
Bottom line: Tidal has a slightly larger track count and adds video content, while Qobuz emphasizes quality and ownership.
Genres & Depth
- Qobuz: Strong in audiophile genres like classical, jazz, and niche music, with curated editorial and liner notes. Great for listeners who value context and rare recordings.
- Tidal: Broader mainstream coverage, including pop, hip-hop, R&B, and curated playlists for trending music. Also offers kids’ content and clean versions of popular tracks.
Exclusive Content
- Tidal: Includes exclusive releases, artist interviews, and video performances. Also integrates with DJ software and offers Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio).
- Qobuz: No video or spatial audio, but offers Hi-Res download store for purchasing albums and tracks—unique among streaming services.
Well, I think I will go for Qobus. I like that I can purchase albums but I will try Qobuz and Tidal for a month or so before I take my decision. Maybe both of them. ![]()
Thank you both!

UPDATE:
First, allow me to clarify one thing. I read that some people here think that we are not willing to pay to have the Spotify official SDK integrated. That is absolutely not the case for two reasons: it is not a matter of paying, in fact this is free, and even if it were, we would gladly do it. In order to have the Spotify official SDK, you can do two things: either receive it directly from Spotify, or receive it from a Spotify partner. For us, given our relationship with open source and our relatively small size in terms of user base, we never got approved or even replied to by either.
Now, here is the update.
We are working really hard behind the scenes to make this happen. Personally, my job is to provide our users with the best possible way to enjoy music, and having official Spotify support is crucial for me to feel satisfied with what we are doing.
So, we worked hard in various ways to get our request, and our users, through. Finally, today we managed to have a call with Spotify’s partnership manager. This was a really great conversation, and we now have a path forward. We are going to exchange further information with their team and see if we can get the official Spotify SDK. They have been very clear that this is not something they can promise, but at least it is a step forward.
I will keep you posted. For now, rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make it happen.
Your efforts are very much appreciated!
Thank you for keeping us informed and explaining to us what (technical) problems need to be overcome.
Excellent news, and thank you for both the update and the efforts!!
Thank you for the update to your users. It demonstrates the behind-the-scenes effort you are putting in to get this working.
News like this might help stop the Wiim defections, as noted above.
We’re not leaving any stone unturned, rest assured ![]()
Having a lot lossless discussions here I’d like to ask a plain simple question. I read some 100 post above here so if that question was already asked and even answered I apologize.
Since 4.073 and Spotify Plugin 4.3.0 I have some trouble getting the plugin to work solid. No problem to connect after a restart of my Raspi but only a few hours later: no chance, won’t connect. I can use Airplay instead. That works like a charm.
I already logged off from Spotify and even re-installed the plugin.

Hi @petjek68! Please, it would help the team to diagnose any potential issues if you share a system log from when these inconsistencies happen on your setup.
To create one:
a) open a browser window with the address “your_system’s_name.local/dev”, for example “volumio.local/dev”;
b) Find the " Send Log or bug report" option, fill in a description text (for example, “Spotify Plugin Issue Tracking”) , and click the “SEND” button
c) Copy the URL link and paste it here.
Thanks!
Sorry, I forgot. Just tried to connect. No success.
