NAS mount.cifs problem

Hello there,

Normally a happy Volumio user but this is very weird.
Had my system down for 3 months for upgrading my dac.
When setting up Volumio again (after upgrading to 2.389) with all the info like network and music I got this strange warning and was unable to reach the NAS with Volumio, I can reach it through another pc though through the same wired network

I hope I can take care of this without getting into Linux because I do not no anything about it.

Where did I go wrong?

Cheers Paulus

In build 2.389 is a problem with the SMB client.

Write

vers=1.0

in the Option field under your password.

It should work then.

Thanks moscher!
This worked fine, happy Volumio user again

Regards Paulus

it did the trick for me too after I had upgraded to the latest version and lost the library

Hmm, bit to happy to soon :frowning:
Fifth time trying reading the musiclibrary on the NAS.

After 45 min. in the process Volumio crashes and nothing is saved.

What now?

Could you please help me? it’s not working for me

Thank you!

Also try vers=2.0 or vers=3.0 or vers=3.1
In that order, we do not know yet how to solve this without manual intervention after the cifs security has been hardened.

The perm. fix is to enable smbv3 on the NAS. Synology supports it but not enable by default. Quite sure Qnap would support it as well.

Perhaps a stupid question then but what about downgrading and going back to a previous software package?

Is that possible?
If so, how do we do that?

Cheers Paulus

Nope, not possible. The PI kernel used for building Volumio has an updated CIFS module for improved security and performance.
SMB3 is the now the default dialect, we do not get to choose this other than overriding it with a mount option “vers=”.

Oké, thanks for your answer gkkpch.
I’m sure you’re working hard to fix the issues and that is appreciated!

So the only thing I can do is as you posted earlier with vers=1.0 to 3 and the 3.1

I’ll try tomorrow and get back if one of these options works, but what if it doesn’t?

Cheers Paulus

“what if” is for pessimists
I’m convinced it is just that, you could of course check your NAS/ server to see what versions of SMB has been configured.
In case it is 1.0 or 2.0, then there you have it.
Btw. for 3.0 (and 3.1) you should not have to add “vers=”, my mistake.

I’m sort of a realistic person and at this point, I’m sad to say, correct in my assumptions as it does not work.

The only version which “works” in my case is vers=1.0
It begins with all the right messages in my app screen that the NAS is mounted (2.34TB) the library is being read and you see tracks/artists/albums coming in the library

So far so good.
After 30 min. or so the green led on the Pi is not flashing randomly anymore but lit up constantly .
This happens just about the point that “artists” reaches the 1000 mark. Is there a limit to the number of artists perhaps or in my case?
I lose connection with Volumio via app or pc, if I play music it begins to stutter and eventually it crashes, sort of.

After again 30 min. or so this crash evaporates and I’m able to get in Volumio.
The NAS is mounted, box ticked with green but no musiclibrary, nothing, zilch, nada.

So, what if

EDIT: found a very crude manner to work around the problem, it isn’t solved though :ugeek:
Just before I think the Pi/Volumio freezes I shut it down. The library read to that point is saved so I can play music for now because that’s what I like

You might want to search the forum or open a separate thread for your library problem as this has no relation with the CIFS issue.
I don’t think there is a limit, but there may be others who know more about it.

Thank you !

Hi there gkkpch, as a hifi nutter I think I owe you and Volumio an apology for my musiclibrary problems

I became frustrated last night and looked more closely at my network and NAS. I found 2 firmware updates for my NAS and made a different setup on my music network.

Musiclibrary was read without a hick up :unamused:

So nothing wrong with the new software release, it was just me, sorry

well, no need to apologize, it could have been an issue we saw before.
We all miss things once in a while, glad you got it solved.

Köszi - me workint too with vers=1.0!

Thanks a lot!

if you’re on a Synology, I’ve had success with the vers=2.0 setting in the Options field. My NAS is configured for SMB2.1.

edit: And, I just updating the SMB settings on my Synology, bumped it to version 3 and changed the options in Volumio. It works with vers=3.0.

Just had an issue getting an Integro to connect to my NAS (which my RPi base Volumio can access). Got it working by entering “vers=3.0” in the options field. Maybe this will help others.
