My DYI Streamer

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to share my new DIY streamer transport with you all.

It’s based on:

  • Allo Shanti Linear Power Supply, rewired with Neotech Multi-Strand UP-OCC PTFE wiring
  • Waveshare Raspberry Pi 7.9inch LCD HDMI Display 400×1280
  • IanCanada ShieldPro MKIII – simply amazing
  • Raspberry Pi 4 Model B
  • Powered by the one and only Volumio OS

Honestly, I’m truly impressed by its performance—it outperforms streamer transports that cost over $3,000.

The setup is connected via Neotech USB 1020 to my Luxman DA-250 DAC.

It’s been a 7-month journey filled with challenges and improvements, but it was absolutely worth it. The design focus has been on simplicity and on minimizing noise and EMI/RFI as much as possible.

Here you can see some pictures. Hope you like it!

Thanks and long live Volumio!

Very nice!

Some quick questions:

  1. Is the USB audio feed coming off one of the RasbPi USB ports?
  2. The HDMI to the screen - is it a micro-HDMI at both ends?
  3. How are you powering the unit on and off?
  4. How stable is the screen interface? I am running an older RasbPi with the original Pi Foundation screen that often loses connection to the screen and requires rebooting.
  5. Is Volumio installed/booting from a micro SD card?

Thanks!

Hi!

Is the USB audio feed coming off one of the RasbPi USB ports?

Yes, from the top USB 2.0 (better than USB 3.0 IMHO)

The HDMI to the screen - is it a micro-HDMI at both ends?

micro-HDMI to the Pi and HDMI to the scree (with the Waveshare U-adapter).

  1. How are you powering the unit on and off?

I use software on-off and the Allo Shanti’s power button to cut the current. The IanCanada has a power control via GPIO but I’m not using it for now.

  1. How stable is the screen interface? I am running an older RasbPi with the original Pi Foundation screen that often loses connection to the screen and requires rebooting.

Not an issue in almost 2 months. I’ve installed Now Playing and Touch Screen plugins.

  1. Is Volumio installed/booting from a micro SD card?

Yes, with no issue at all.

Thanks!
