My 3 Volumio Development Requests

Greetings,

After now having used Volumio for a longer time I have a better idea of what I would like to see based on my use case, which is playing local files off a NAS and use of web radios. I understand that there are many folks who want to integrate this or that streaming service and other items that don;t specifically address anything in how I personally utilize Volumio. So these three, in no particular order are:

  1. The ability to ignore articles at the beginning of artist names. There are several threads about this, I like the idea of user-definable strings that are ignored at the start of the artists name. That accounts for different languages and preferences.

  2. Expansion of the Volumio app to include streaming via MyVolumio. This would be one half of the Volumio game-changer for me. Davide tells me that this is in the works, waiting with baited breath.

  3. The Volumio app, after inclusion of streaming with MyVolumio, to be made Android Auto (and CarPlay) compatible. This would make Volumio my single source of music streaming. I do point my Plex server at my NAS so I can stream in the car via Plexamp, which for Android at least, is Android Auto compatible.

This ends up being my ying/yang struggle with Volumio vs. Plex/Plexamp.

  1. I like the Volumio UI (Manifest) better than Plexamp.
  2. Volumio handles web radios but Plex/Plexamp no longer does (and Plexamp may never have?).
  3. The Plexamp mobile app works flawlessly, streams off my NAS, and is Android Auto compatible.

I have a lifetime PlexPass but yet I still pay for MyVolumio Premium because I hope beyond hope the Volumio app will evolve and I just like the UI more. I did just setup headless Plexamp on a RPi I had hanging around and it works fine for local playback, UI aside but, again, no web radios.

First world problems for sure.

So there’s my requests, and pitch to the Volumio team. :slight_smile:

Thanks for your great recommendations. They do make sense and all I can say is that we are working on them on the next iteration of Volumio;)

Almost exactly same usecase for me!

Plexamp works in Carplay. Also flawlessly.
I stopped using Plex to stream from my NAS at home in favour of Volumio as I need to be able to stream DSD files (which Plex will not do).

If I could up-vote your suggestions, I would!

Sorry to resurect this thread but i am curious how it stands with the development of the support for Android auto? Is there some progress in it?

I am considering to buy an yearly sub of Volumio…
