MultiRoom reasmpling

So I moved to Volumio from Moode for the multiroom.

Got it setup.
1x Asustore holding the flac/mp3 music in varying 192 to 44 khz at 16 - 24 bit (from my production days, I kept my hi res masters).
1x pi 4b feeding an Ifi dac.
1x pi 3b feeding another ifi dac.

I group the 3b to the 4b and play on the 4b (master), music plays on the 3b (slave) as expected.

The problem is the 3b (slave) ALWAYS displays the source as multiroom (correct) but 48khz and 24bit. that is to say if I play 92khz source flac at 24 bit on the 4b it will still play multiroom 48khz 24 bit on the slave 3b.
The Ifi also has a silly little colour changer for the sample rate and, whilst a gimmic I agree, it does switch colours when I play 92khz flac directly. when playing multiroom on the slave it indicates 48khz even if the master 4b is playing 92khz.

I use DSP parametric EQs on the slave, turning this off still causes the 48khz resample.

So main questions:

  1. Is multiroom slave always resampling up from 44 and down from 96 to 48khz before sending to the slave?
  2. Is DSP parametric EQs on the slave causing the resample or is it a part of the multiroom?
  3. how can I get Volumios out the box to play bit perfect/un-resampled audio to the slave?
  4. if it cant be done out the box, is installing snapcast the way to do this? Is there a guide?
  5. if snapcast is the way, is it gapless between tracks on volumio?

Bonus:
a) Sometimes the 3b seems to ‘stick’ on screens on multicast. so it will play the audio, display new album art when swithcing tracks, but wont update the play time or prgress. Bug I assume?
b) asked in the FAQ I know, but could volumio please remember the groupings I setup power power off?

Thank you for your time and the great product!

Multi room uses snapcast. Everything is resampled @48khz for master and slaves.
But the master always shows the original sample rate even if it is played at 48kHz. @volumio .
FusionDsp just plays what is sent as this.
You never be bitperfect with multiroom or a DSP.
You can set a delay for multiroom on one device to get sound synchronized if you use FusionDsp on a device (introduce delay) .
Last point, if you want to use convolution filter with multiroom, you must have designed a 48kHz filter or you’ll get bad result.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

So even if I install Snapchat my self, I cannot get it to play native sampling rate I assume?
Have there been any attempts to get the ‘out the box’ multiroom to play native?

No.
You need to update configuration each time sample rate changes. Not possible…
High sample rate on several instances required high network bandwidth.
Sonic difference neglecable .
In short, no interest. But IMHO…
