Motivo slow browsing album, artists etc

Hi Volumio Community

I have just received my brand new Motivo.

I’m a bit disappointed though. When browsing artists, albums etc. its lagging and browsing is very slow? When I’m browsing Volumio on my iPad browsing is smooth as I expect it to be on the Motivo as well.

I have the Motivo wired to a fast 1000 Mbit internet connection. So this can’t be any better than that.

Is there a bug that needs to be fixed? The screen is of no use if browsing is so very slow and lagging as I’m experiencing right now!

Looking forward to some help and advise on this matter.

Thank You in advance :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

Make sure you’ve updated to the latest Volumio version.
If you use album art, try to set it to Medium.

Sources => Album Art Settings => Web Album Art Size => Medium
Save
Reset Album Art cache

And try again. First load can take some time to build the cache.

Hi Wheaton

I should have the latest update 3.779 - have set the size to medium but no change

Goes pretty smooth over here.
It might be that your albumart saved in the folder might be big in size?

As Motivo owner your entitled to premium support.

Hi Wheaton

Thanks :pray:t2:

Have used the link. And have been in touch with Marco. But no solution yet. Hope to get it solved. Looking forward to hearing from Marco soon :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Wheaton

Forgot to ask.

Do You own the Motivo? You wrote that it “goes pretty smooth over here”?

Again on my iPad I don’t have any issues. Browsing runs very smooth!
But on the Motivo it is running anything but smooth as I have described earlier.

Yes have a Primo2 and Motivo.

As You can see the iPad is much more responsive scrolling. The Motivo is very slow jumping in the scrolling!

mmm, that’s indeed cumbersome.

What I have done when doing tests for Volumio:

  • Running V3.779
  • I’ve resized all my art to 500x500, to improve loading time, with Fotosizer
  • Web album art size => large

Let’s see if Volumio has some tricks in it’s sleeve.

Let’s hope so Wheaton :+1:

I don’t have Motivo, I use Volumio on various RPIs.
I also noticed that if I use an old iPad (6 or 7) and display the album covers as a grid, it’s almost unusable. The list display doesn’t cause any problems.
On the other hand, it works wonderfully with a 9 iPad or my Google Pixel mobile phone (7a).
The WebGUI also works wonderfully on the computer.
Perhaps it’s something to do with the device you’re using?

Hi rost21A

The problem/issue is when using the Volumio Motivo (brand new item btw)

If You look at my video where I compare my iPad to the Motivo You can see the difference in speed scrolling my library.

As the Motivo is a brand new streaming device made by Volumio I am surprised that it is that much slower than the iPad. Should be tailor made to do the job perfectly.

Now I’m waiting for Volumio to return with the solution or what’s causing it? Until then I will give Motivo the benefit of the doubt :pray:t2:

Please excuse me, just so I understand correctly.
What generation of iPad are you using? (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…)
For me, this slow scrolling only occurs with an old iPad, not with a new one. (with the same Volumio device)

@rost21A
This is not regarding an iPad. Please keep this topic clean

Hi rost21A

My iPad isn’t the issue :slightly_smiling_face: I have an iPad gen 10. As You can se in my video earlier in this thread my iPad is running smooth and fast.

It is the new streamer called Motivo that Volumio has launched that has slow scrolling. As Volumio is both the company designing the software and the streamer one should expect it to run at the same level as my iPad.

Hope it makes sense - otherwise look at my video in this thread as it clearly shows the speed difference in comparison between the Volumio Motivo and the iPad.

All right, now I understand, Motivo has its own display. - Sorry!
I’m sure there will be a solution soon.
