Hi, I am running Volumio on a Raspberry Pi. On Windows machines my favorite media player (FooBar2000) has a UPnP/DLNA plugin which allows me to redirect audio to Volumio. My Mac is running on the M1 cpu and that plugin does not work with non-Intel architecture. I’ve been looking all over the web for DLNA support for MacOS and I’m not finding anything. The goal is to have Volumio appear under the computer’s System Settings > Sound as an output device. Does anyone know of a solution I might try? Thank you!
An alternative to cast audio from Mac to Volumio is through AirPlay. On Volumio Sources settings, make sure that Shairport-Sync is enabled. Then on your Mac you should see your Volumio RPi as an available audio output. Each output has its own volume level and you may need to adjust the volume on your Mac.
A couple of years ago I did look into UPnP from a Mac but I don’t remember the outcome. Looking now, I see this in the Mac App Store which looks like a possible solution if you specifically want to use UPnP/DLNA: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/firestream/id1005325119
AirPlay is a simple and free solution, although it wouldn’t be bit-perfect if that matters to you.
Metro, I am happy to say that AirPlay works fine! It’s a little fussy on the server side, on the Mac, to get things wired up, but once all the bits start working together Volumio does the rendering job very nicely. Thank you for the help! And bit-perfect isn’t required for my application.
