I've given up on Volumio but maybe someone can tell me I'm wrong?

I’ve been using Volumio a few months now, have 3 rooms setup using 2x raspberry pi (a 4b and 2b) and an old laptop x86. I’ve connected up Spotify and my home server using samba shares for my own library.

I really like the UI and app, how it looks and feels. Flashing the SD card is quick and painless. Setup is easy. Add some favourite radio stations and we’re good.

But then, Spotify plugin stops mid song.

Or my samba shares just stop working on one machine but not the other.

Cannot play podcasts on the Spotify plugin.

I find the music browser quite clunky (pressing the home button instead of back like all other apps)

But I’ve paid for the app and installed ceiling speakers because I like the idea and I’m committed… So I try and try, re flash SD cards… And keep coming up against issues. Then after a while I find that reflashed machines won’t register with my premium account for some reason so I can’t use plugins.

Out of frustration, I searched Google and found picoreplayer, added LMS to my home setup and I’m up and running in all rooms in no time. It’s not as attractive, but the Squeeze app on Android works really well and is much faster. The Spotify app is great and plays podcasts too. My network shares are all perfectly working.

So after this experiment, can anyone tell me what I’ve done wrong on Volumio? This other setup was so easy. I’m happy to be corrected, but it just seems so buggy? Has anyone else experienced this or moved from picoreplayer to Volumio? Would love to understand more

Hi, I’m on this forum for years, I’m using volumio discontinuous way for at least 6 years and the less that we can say is that frustration is part of the game.

Your problems are V3 core problems, don’t blame yourself and don’t wait for quick fixes sorry, even if things seems to improve very recently, the gap to perfection is still big.

I’m pretty sure debian outdated buster and javasript, the two hearts of volumio don’t ease the QA input.

You need to get in the habbit of using Volumio’s back button and not the browsers or your devices.

Yeah I get you, but given the UX on pretty much every other app in existence is different, I find this clunky for a “premium” app. By comparison, Squeezer which I’m using now with picoreplayer doesn’t have this issue.

I guess the point I’m making in simple terms is why should I go with Volumio over Picoreplayer? Has anyone a good reason? Like I said, I’ve invested the time and money so would like to know if I’m missing something.

Since you are a premium user, why have you not used their support to address your issues? With premium you have that included.

This is an example of another weird thing with Volumio - I had looked into their contract us area for exactly this reason (admittedly briefly) and found a different page where I could only see the Help Center (Volumio Help Center) and then landed on a page where you can book time with a tech specialist, for a fee, so I turned to the community.

I didn’t even know about the access for premium - probably should’ve looked harder, but then again, it strikes me as a pretty buggy platform. And at that point I was ready to walk away.

Anyway, if I was to go with free, given say picoreplayer is also free, what’s the advantage? I’m still trying to figure this out.

@volumio I guess this is customer feedback for improvement around the help center and customers expectations.
