I’m trying to figure out a way to connect my (old Yamaha rx-v1500) receiver to volumio so that I can make it power on and off when necessary. Adjusting the volume would be a very appreciated plus.
I’ve found two ways. The IR route or using the serial rs232 port on my receiver. I’ve never soldered in my life, plus my Pi is covered by a dac hat, so I think USB would be the preferred option? I’m curious what you will advise (and why) in my situation.
First, the IR route. Two issues.
- I’ve installed the IR Controller plugin. But it seems it only supports GPIO transmitters, thus no USB? This would rule out my requirement right.
- I’m very confused what to buy. As an example, would this be an option: IR remote extender
Second route: The serial amplifier control plugin.
Main issue. I feel this requires more tinkering, since obviously my receiver is not supported.
I do feel more confident on the hardware side though. I’ve found something, though I would like a shorter cable without paying a x4 fee, with the same chipset as mentioned by the plugin author.

I’m looking for the easiest route. The IR route looked the easiest at first, but depending on the possibilities of existing solutions, it might not be.
