Installing Volumio on RPI inside Argon One M.2 Case

Dear All,

Previously I have used 16 GB or 64 GB memory cards to setup Volumio with my other Raspberry Pi devices like USB Signature or Boss 2 Player .

I have recently purchased RPi 4 with an Argon One M.2 Case which also comes with 500 GB SSD M.2 storage.Since I had a great External DAC so thought to build a new system. My requirement is my setup should work as a streamer as well as I can connect a USB drive or Hard disk to play my music files and the DAC will be connected externally.

My question is —

  1. Can i use the 500 GB storage I have received with the Argon One M.2 case and divide it into 2 drives ?
  2. Assign 64GB to one drive and install Volumio on the same and use the remaining drive as storage for storing music files to play on Volumio.

If yes, than please guide me as how should I begin dividing the SSD drive into 2 different drives ?
How can I ensure that once SSD storage is configured inside the case, it will start or boot with Volumio on the 64GB drive and I will be able to see the other drive as storage unit on Volumio.

Looking forward to your valuable guidance…

Regards
Rajiv Kumar

Volumio will only boot from the SD, so in this case you can assign the complete 500GB for storage.

Thanks @Wheaten…so in that case can i use the remaining storage in the SSD card for storing my Music files which can be read on Volumio or do I need to anything else for that

not the remaining the total ssd, your system wil run from the micro sd
be a ware if you upgrade to remove or disconnect it otherwise it could be that it will be wiped.

@dvo as mentioned there is no micro sd provision with the Argon One M.2 case. It has only a provision for SSD and I got a good deal for 500 GB SSD. Now if the complete SSD is used for Volumio, than does it means I will not be create another drive or folder for storing my music files and use it on Volumio ?

it’s inside your argon if you remove the ssd part you will find the micro sd slot …
no the ssd will only be storage and a microsd will contain your system.

you burn volumio on a micro sd card, from ssd it will not boot ,
and the ssd will be your storage drive.

The SD card goes into the rPi, I would advice against storing your music on the SD.
If the card get corrupted, you loose verything.
So take 8GB/Class10 SD and flash Volumio to it.
You can use the M2 to store your music.

Thanks Wheaten…that solves my concern

Thanks @Wheaten and @dvo for all your suggestions and the setup is working perfectly fine. I have now stuck with just one area - The SSD drive inside the Argon Case…So using an SSD enclosure let’s say I create a storage device but after installing it inside the Argon M.2 Case, where can I see it as a storage device inside Volumio and how can I copy/paste files on the same. Kindly guide…

Label the SSD as “Internal SSD” or “issd”, these ones are explicitly allowed.
