Improved Metadata Usage for Classical Music

I know there have been some similar requests before but this one is very specific. I am an new user to Volumio, with a Rivo +. I come from Bluesound, which I hung onto for a long time because of its UI. Volumio’'s UI is competetive in many ways and quite excellent. However, it gives short shrift to supporting indexing of and information pertaining to the classical recordings. A specific example would be track titles. With pop music, the existing metadata usage is usually adequate. But with classical, especially when there is more than one work on the album, the track information is useless, because it doesn’t identify what work is actually being performed and by whom. Example. A recording by pianist Elizabeth Rich on Centaur label, has three piano concertos, one by Clara Schumann and two be Carl von Weber. The primary track label of “Adagio” isn’t very helpful, when there are three Adagios on the album: one for each concerto. The rest of the information is just the full name of the album, duplicated on EACH track unnecessarily. This is a Qobuz connectios by the way. A lot of Qobuz listeners enjoy classical music; in fact Qobuz is the best service, aside from IDAGIO, which unfortunately is not supported by most streamers. I’d like to request you bump up the priority of much needed classical support. I’m attaching the Volumio and Bluesound displays of this album to show the difference. BluOS breaks down by work and by full track information. Please consider! Thank you.

I second this. Many classical music listeners are rather conservative and still listen from CDs, but streaming becomes more popular now. Personally, I listen to many styles of music, but as DavidWind points out, when I hear classical music, I find the displayed metadata to be not very useful.

Yapp, David explains it perfekt.

This is a much broader problem than I realized when I first posted this. It is not just classical music that is affected. The same thing happens to any popular, jazz or other genre where there are multiple artists on the album. There is no way of knowing who is playing what on which track, since the album cover title and artist is duplicated on all tracks. I hope this will reach a higher level of priority in the near future. Volumio is great software, but it can be a lot better, and compete better with BluOS.

Are your tags proper filled, as I cant conform this for other genres?

If you are getting detail track information then it may depend on the metadata for that album. My last comment applied to a particular multi-artist album. I didn’t test it across many popular sets. But the original post regarding classical music still stands; I found it to be consistent, and others have likewise commented. I hope I understood your comment…sorry if I didn’t.

Yes for classical the comment stand and I have reported it.
