I2S DAC: Adafruit I2S 3W Stereo Speaker Bonnet

Hello Volumians,
I have set up a Raspberry Pi 0 W using the latest version of Volumio (2.285). And I have added a DAC, the Adafruit I2S 3W Stereo Speaker Bonnet for Raspberry Pi https://www.adafruit.com/product/3346

So, I have turned on the setting in Playback Options for I2S Dac (ON), but I cannot determine how I should set the other options. There is no specific choice for “Adafruit I2S 3W Stereo Speaker Bonnet”. I have tried to select various settings in this section and the result sometimes crashes and reboots the raspi, or alternatively just does nothing.

What should i select for Output Device?
What should i select for DAC Model?

Should I change other Playback options such as DSD Playback mode?
thanks for your help,
Neil

PS: I did do some testing and I am able to run sound through the DAC and hear it from the speakers using the following commands. These all work fine:

Simple white noise speaker test

speaker-test -c2

Simple WAV speaker test

speaker-test -c2 --test=wav -w /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

Simple MP3 speaker test

Adafruit’s SpeakerBonnet setup guide uses PhatDAC. I was able to get that going as well as HiFiBerry DAC. PhatDAC did not respond to volume, but I didn’t play around with it much to see if I could get it to work.

So, this is great, I’ve gotten everything working correctly, except for volume control. I can’t seem to get that working, even though I’ve gone through the adafruit tutorial and it’s instructions. Any hints to enable volume control through the Volumio interface?

Anyone managed to get the volume control working? tnx

Are we still selecting PhatDac in the Volumio setup?

This seems a little wonky, the Adafruit SpeakerBonnet is a popular option, it would be good to get some specific support for its set-up, ideally adding it to the list of options to select as your audio output options.
