As my metal housing is apparently not ideal for using the internal Raspberry Pi WLAN adapter. I have now used an external WLAN adapter. For me it was very easy and worked without compiling and driver download. Here are the steps:
Configure your WLAN and LAN in volumio so that it works. In my case, the LAN is for emergencies if I can’t get a connection via WLAN.
Then I created an image of my SD card with the Win32DIskImager programm and wrote the image to another SD card. The SD card was also tested to see whether volumio was working correctly. So if something goes wrong, simply use the 2nd SD card.
Then I deactivated the internal WLAN in the /boot/userconfig.txt file. Add the entry:
dtoverlay=disable-wifi
Shut down your Volumio. Connect your external USB WLAN adapter to a USB 3 port of the Raspberry Pi. I have used the following:
TP-Link Archer T3U Plus AC1300 High Gain USB WLAN Stick Adapter
It works with my Pi4B and volumio 3.785 plug and play.
Start volumio and the adapter is automatically recognised and uses the same IP address as the internal WLAN adapter of the Raspberry Pi.
