How do you rollback firmware to earlier version please

Volumio Information

I have the latest firmware version 2.861, but it is very flaky as it loses connection from PC to RPI3 where it is installed so that the PC interface has no connection clicking on settings as well comes up blank that is no drop downs. My music is stored a synolgy NAS and has connected and worked for months without any issues on both volumio setups but now it wont play any music from the NAS. I have to reboot the system several times to attain some stability. so i would like to roll it back to the previous version which worked. so can someone tell me how to do that easily thanks.

Bump

Hello @TomThumb ,

Please note that Volumio 2.x (including 2.861) is officially retired and no longer supported by the Volumio team. Development and updates have shifted fully to Volumio 3 and now beyond. As such:

  • Rollback options are not officially available via Volumio OTA (Over-the-Air) updates.
  • Volumio does not offer firmware “bump” services. The platform is primarily an embedded OS; version transitions require manual user action.
  • There was no official 2.861 firmware release for all devices; numbering may differ slightly across platforms (RPi, x86, Tinkerboard).

If you need to roll back, the correct procedure is:

How to Roll Back to an Earlier Version:

  1. Manually download an older Volumio 2 image from third-party archives, if still available.
(Warning: These are unofficial sources - risk of outdated or unverified images.)
  2. Flash the image onto your microSD card or storage device using a reliable tool like Balena Etcher.
  3. Configure your setup again from scratch - including network, DAC settings, and NAS shares.

Important: Volumio does not officially provide older images for download anymore.
If stability is your primary goal, it is highly recommended to upgrade to Volumio 3 or newer, which includes major network and NAS stability improvements.

Additional Observations:

  • Device disconnections and NAS instability are common symptoms of either network-level issues or browser-side session expiration in Volumio 2.x.
  • Problem reports require more structure to receive meaningful community help:
    • Hardware model
    • Exact DAC used
    • Network setup details (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, router model)
    • Browser and PC OS used to access Volumio
    • Error logs, if possible (http://yourvolumio.local/dev → logs)

Simply bumping posts without providing additional information does not facilitate troubleshooting and dilutes community support effectiveness.

Advice:

Since Volumio 2 is outdated, consider the following options:

  • Upgrade to Volumio 3 or newer and test again.
  • If network stability is critical, use Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi.
  • Review NAS permissions - ensure guest access is properly configured or specify correct credentials.
  • Always use a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) and clear its cache if issues persist.

Kind Regards,

Thanks. I ended up refreshing Volumio with 3.799, configured it, works great on my android phone and win x86 desktop but…Scrambled screen - Samsung S6 Lite, Android v13, One UI v5.1.1 Volumio 3.799 All the sudden, Upon launching the app I get the correct splash screen but after clicking the device on the splash screen I get garbled\pixelated graphics horizontally for a few lines, totally unintelligible?? Volumio works on both my other devices, an android phone and a Win. Intel x64 desktop, fine?
