How do I switch to an external USB wifi adapter

Hi
I suspect I have poor wifi performance from the internal WIFI of the RPI. (Getting stops of the music)
I have ordered an external USB wifi adapter such as this
TP-Link AC1300 USB WiFi Adapter.
How do I get the RPI to use the external wifi adapter rather than its own internal wifi?
I hope that makes sense.

I did some looking around, and I think I just need to do this:

add them to userconfig.txt, so they will be maintained with OTA software updates

dtoverlay=disable-bt
dtoverlay=disable-wifi

Is that what I need to do?

Ok. I think I have disabled the internal wifi.
Can someone help me to configure the usb wifi dongle. I was hoping I would just see it in the volumio UI under network. But no such luck.
I am currently running on ethernet, but don’t see how to get over to the new wifi dongle .
