HiffiBerry DAC8x ALSA driver

Hi,
I have been unable to run my HiffiBerry DAC8x on Volumio with Raspberry Pi5.

I have tried this tutorial
https://www.hifiberry.com/docs/software/configuring-linux-3-18-x/

I have also tried to add the hifiberry-dac8x.dtbo from Moode, but it still does not appear in the list of options. Does anyone know a solution?

Hey @Nico_Alix,

The /boot/overlays/hifiberry-dac8x.dtbo is available in our kernel 6.6 beta build:

This is where we are testing new devices alongside of core functions. What is needed - your DAC added to backend.

Kind Regards,

I still don’t see the driver in the list. I see some new ones [Pi5] and they don’t give error in the communication, but only output 1 is playing, like when I use one of the generic drivers.

Hey @Nico_Alix,

Te set expectations:
The HiffiBerry DAC8x went into the retail middle of Q2 2024.
Work on new kernel including “newer hardware” for PI family on Volumio started middle of last month.
The HiffiBerry DAC8x is not fully tested with Volumio OS back-end yet, hence is not listed.

There are two options available:

  1. Wait until your particular DAC completes testing by Volumio team (no ETA)
  2. Join beta reporting problem with all requested details

If option 2 is your preference I can merge this thread to beta.

Kind Regards,
