Help with new options in Spotify plugin

I would like someone to explain new additions to Spotify plugin. Audio Buffer Time and Audio Period Count. For some reason this two settings are affecting audio quality of Spotiffy connect.
I have stable 1gbps optic connection through ethernet. By tweaking settings of Audio Buffer to 800000 and Audio Period Count to 8 I think quality is as before but I am not sure.
I have high resolution system with dedicated pc for audio. Gigabyte N200 with 16gb of ram and 1TB NVME connected to Wadia DAC. Everything works perfectly with great stability. I am controlling PC through iPad.

Hi @ne.dobri , I think these are both settings to offset problems with network latency causing stuttering. A buffer stores data before playback for a period of time. An audio period is the number of frames between each hardware interrupt (analog-digital or digital-analog conversion). I doubt if either would affect sound quality on your system as you have a stable, high-speed connection, but if you think you can hear a difference, go for it.

Does Spotify even offer cd quality yet (ie Spotify hi-fi)? Seems like it will never happen. The native apps and algorithms are usually the best.

Nope, the rumors started somewhere in 2021, that Spotify would bring Hi-res. The latest rumors suggest end 2025 for Spotify Pro

Should be interesting to see if it happens. I’ve never bothered with it just own collection and tidal does a great job.

Surely it’s not that hard to provide cd quality rips, doesn’t even have to be high res (a bit overrated but nice to have). I reckon most listeners are youngsters and casual listeners and they probably listen to ads too.

I think the problems is/was all the contract renewals with record labels.
