On which image did you try this? I’ve installed (takes a while!) on 2.118 on both Pi1B+ and Pi3.
Update: you are absolutely correct! I though I’d edit the package.json to name the plugin with the correction version. But it takes more than just editing the package.json… My apologies, I have replaced the previous zips with new ones.
The installscript does not use the /data/plugins directory, this is what Volumio does. Can you add the full log please? Also did you drag-and-drop the zipfile to Volumio? Or is there another way of installation?
The log lines I see are:

I have installed on my rpi 2 the krypton rc version. Now install is fine but, as the kodi didn’t start, I had a look at journalctl. I saw that user kodi can’t create /home/kodi ( accesss right). I created the folder and now it starts. But, it is still the previous version of kodi…
kodi-standalone -v
16.1 Git:Unknown Media Center Kodi
Copyright (C) 2005-2013 Team Kodi - http://kodi.tv
Do I need to flash a new SD before installing ?
I think I found : when de-installing a previous version, it does not remove kodi properly (uninstall.sh doesn’ seems to work). So I removed by hand
sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove gdb kodi --yes
Re-install and TADA !!! It works (but I created /home/kodi).
And the good thing is that is display ok on my 7" official rpi lcd ! (was not the case in previous version).
Thanks a lot !
Awesome, glad to hear it installs fine! The creation of the folder should occur under super user, as that is how the install.sh is ran. Weird, if it does it again please let me know, I have not seen this behavior myself.
Unfortunally, the Krypton RC1 crash badly on my setup (Freshly installed Volumio 2.118 on RPi 3 + Audiophonics DAC I-Sabre V3 ES9023 TCXO).
Do you guys have the same problem as me ?
What is exactly crashing? Can you be more specific; is it crashing intermittently or only when playing videos? Right at the start or during?
I have not had a single crash of Kodi, playing videos and skipping parts, etc. But maybe some vchiq/vcio/vcsm rights issue occurs on your setup. Can you post the journalctl output?
Did you install the Krypton version on a fresh image? I know the beta archive has some problems… but the RC1 archive should work fine.
If the installation fails again, can you post back with the journalctl log and the Kodi crashlog? Maybe I can fix something in the script.
thanks for the great plugin and lot of time invested to support its installation.
I did install it (Krypton rc) too on fresh Volumio 2.18, and everything went flawless, however couldn’t make the sound come through DAC (Mamboberry HIFI dac+). Tried all settings and the sound just didn’t play? But through HDMI was playing fine. On VOLUMIO through dac as well.
Where i could start to searching for a problem? Maybe i could obtain log somewhere on the system (sorry still fresh in linux) and post it here?
The stupid question, where do you control the sound volume on Kodi (maybe thats the problem), for me the speaker button on kodi interface let either to have a sound or cut it of. Can you adjust the volume through Kodi or somewhere else that is done?
The other thingy that if I2S option is set ON in Volumio preference, the Kodi doesn’t start, is it should be like that?
Thanks! Due to Volumio rewriting the complete (yes all of it) config.txt you need to either:
Setup your DAC before installation
Setup your DAC afterwards and
2a. Edit one value in the Kodi config (settings page of the plugin) and save (this will write all settings to the config.txt file)
This should cover having the correct config.txt and thus being able to run Kodi and have a DAC installed. Enabling the DAC in Kodi requires some more steps:
Make sure the DAC is enabled for output in Kodi → go to the settings page of the plugin and switch ‘Enable DAC output for Kodi’ to ON.
You will need to restart Kodi for the above change to take effect, you can do this by stopping and starting the plugin.
Lastly you will need to select the DAC in Kodi, go to settings > system > audio and select the correct DAC.
That should cover it.
As for the volume, I use the Kore (android) app to control Kodi’s volume, if you open the app the volume buttons on your phone should be routed to Kodi.
Thanks mate. I edited config.txt manualy (adding “dtoverlay=hifierry-dac”) as you suggested, before installing kodi plugin and it really helped. Now the sound comes through dac and amplifier
however i can’t enjoy as its too loud and i can’t control the sound volume through software somehow
Maybe you have any idea where i messed up? I took few screenshots from the volumio settings, as well as from the view of kodi player on tv and on browser.
is this TV screen the whole screen that you guys see when you launch player? because i see no volume control. On web browser i can see volume button but it doesn’t allow me to reduce it, only works as a on/off button either sound is on on full volume or completely off. Also have bluetooth remote control, it works well for navigation but again Kodi doesn’t react to its sound buttons. Any hints?
