Gapless playback not working - example audio files

Hi,
I am new to Volumio and like it very much. Unfortunately it appears that gapless playback does not work properly or perhaps doesn’t work at all.
I had originally posted this topic in an old thread but didn’t get useful feedback there for some reason, So I hope it is ok that I post it as a new topic.

My hardware: Pi3 B and Hifiberry DAC+.
Software: Volumio 2.378
Use case: I play MP3 files from an USB stick.

The problem is that there are always audible interruptions between the tracks. If I play the same files on the same hardware, but with Rune Audio player, there are no interruptions.
I have added two examples that demonstrate the different behavior of Volumio vs. RuneAudio. I have recorded them directly from the analog audio output of the HifiBerry DAC. The examples are played from the same audio files with the same hardware.
With Volumio there is an obvious interruption at the transition between the tracks, with RuneAudio there is no interruption.

I hope someone can give me some information if I have missed some setting or if this is a bug.

Thank you,
crashpilot

Hi,

I’m using Volumio 2.389 on Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with Topping D10 USB DAC. I tested gapeless playback with Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (FLAC) played via Lynn Kinsky and it works perfectly.

Hi krunok,
thank you for your reply. So there are 3 differences:

  • you use a different DAC - actually I think it is not likely that this is the reason for the problem.
  • you use FLAC and not MP3. Possibly this makes the difference.
  • you use a newer version of Volumio (2.389 vs. 2.379). I will try if this makes a difference and the report here.
    Thanks,
