I have been comparing the sonic qualities of a RPI3/Piano 2.1 of FLAC files played off a NAS via 100Mpbs
and those local on a 128G USB Key.

There is a clear difference . A lot more haze and fatigue in the NAS source verse the 128G USB Key.
I don’t think I am the only to notice this difference.

This difference exists even with a maxed out prefetch buffer 12MB and 40%

Is there a feature to to completely prefetch the NAS file to a local RAM disk partition and then
play it from there?

Nope…

Part of the reason is that we tried this in an empiric way (playing from ram) to see if it was prodicing any measurable impact on playback performance (mainly impacting jitter, as one would expect) but in fact it was not making any difference…
