FreeBSD Support

Hi!
I was wondering how hard would it be to convert the volumio project to x86 based FreeBSD Linux. I think it shouldn’t be too complicated.

The reason I’m asking is because I have this powerful FreeNAS machine that can easily handle all my DSD convertion, indexing, it is always on and just works great, so I’m thinking - why do I even deal with Raspberry PI? My box can easily function as a Plex Media Server with real-time transcoding, so audio should be really easy.

FreeNAS has a concept of plugins running in jails (kind of like Docker containers), so volumio can be added as a first-class plugin right next to other plugins like Crashplan, Transmission, Plex, SickRage, CouchPotato and many more.

Thanks!

To be honest, that would be a massive undertaking and furthermore is out of the scope of the project… Sorry

Ok, thank you.
To be clear - it is a Linux based OS that has MPD built in. Running in a jail means you can do whatever you want in that partition.

But I understand there are priorities.

Thanks!

Hi,

Just to be clear - freeBSD is not Linux in any way.

but to help, on freeNAS you can run a virtual machine of any type - so you could use the Volumio Audiophile Music Player for PC (X86/X64) .img file and run it as a vm on freeNAS
