Fraudulent charge on card after entering for Premium trial

I have just activated my premium subscription for the trial, this required me to enter my bank card.

I very shortly afterwards (5 minutes) received a notification of a fraudulent transaction on my account (ZAR 247127.46 or ± $1,348.72).

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Hi, so sorry to hear that.

But no, we have never received such a feedback before. We use a third-party payment provider (Paddle) exactly to have the maximum security possible for the transactions, and they are transmitted on secure and fully encrypted channels. So I definetely think this is an inconvenient coincidence.

To avoid any doubt and concern, we will investigate anyway and enquire with Paddle. Better not leave anything to chance here.

Of course, my suggestion is to block the card immediately and contact your bank to notify them about this (you might have an insurance on your card which allows you to get back the amount).

Could you please double-check with your bank to confirm whether the charge actually went through?

In the meantime, I’ve also contacted Paddle (our payment provider) to investigate the issue.

My bank luckily flagged the payment and contacted me about it.

Card has been cancelled and payment was blocked

Again, I think this is a coincidence. But we won’t leave any stone unturned and enquire via paddle.
