Hi all, initially I say hello to all as I’m a new member and just feeling my way.
I have a RPi 3B+ with a HIFiberry HAT. I’ve just installed Volumio and have it up and running fine with Qobuz. I have an amount of ripped CD’s that were originally in my iTunes folder. How can I get them to appear and be able to play them in Volumio?
I’m new to this so I may well ask some dumb questions, please bear with me . . .
I don’t want to integrate with iTunes. My music files and artworks are within the iTunes folders. I’m asking how can those files be drawn into Volumio (or even if it is possible). At present they are .m4a files.
When you say iTunes folder - is it a local hierarchical placement and not Apple iTunes service - did I get this right?
If this is the case, there are three primary ways to get your music files (including from your iTunes folder) into Volumio:
Option 1: Copy Files to USB/Drive (FAT32 formatted)
Prepare Your USB Drive:
Format your USB drive or external hard drive to FAT32 (for compatibility with Volumio).
Copy Music Files:
Copy your music files (e.g., from your iTunes folder) onto the USB drive.
Plug the Drive into Volumio:
Insert the USB drive or external hard drive into your Volumio device (e.g., Raspberry Pi).
Access Music in Volumio:
Volumio will automatically detect the new drive and you will need to use Rescan function to add the music to the Music Library.
Option 2: Mount CIFS/NFS to Volumio
Share Files from Your PC/Mac:
Share the folder containing your music over the network using CIFS (SMB) or NFS protocols.
Mount the Share in Volumio:
On Volumio, go to Music Sources and mount the shared folder by entering the correct CIFS/NFS path. You’ll need to ensure Volumio has access to the shared directory.
Access Music:
Volumio will scan the mounted folder and you will need to use Rescan function to add to add your files to the Music Library.
Option 3: Copy Files from Local PC/Mac to Volumio SMB Share
Access Volumio’s SMB Share (user and password are the same: volumio):
On your PC or Mac, open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). Type \\volumio (or smb://volumio.local) to access the volumio or Music shared folder.
Copy Music:
Drag and drop your music files (e.g., from your iTunes folder) into the shared folder.
Refresh Music Library:
After copying the files, go to the Music Library in Volumio’s web interface and refresh it to add the new music.
Important Notes:
Music Format: Volumio supports .m4a (AAC) files natively, so no conversion is needed. If you face any compatibility issues, you may consider converting files to MP3 or FLAC.
Network: Ensure that both Volumio and your PC/Mac are on the same local network for the best experience.
