Hi everyone,
Before the Harman Kardon style streamer I was working on a Rotel style streamer. The project was set on a hold for some time but recently has been finished.
It is already the 3th Volumio streamer project for me and it is still a lot of fun to design, build, draw, program and test.
This is a Rotel style streamer to match my receiver. The case that is used is from a slaughtered defect Rotel RDV-1050 DVD player.
The 11.9” display is exactly the right size to cover all the old (button) holes in the Rotel front panel. It could not have been 1mm smaller!
It is a little less complex as the other 2 previous builds.
Since I had a spare Rpi5 on the shelve from an abandoned project, I decided to use that. Hoping the higher processing power had some advantages.
In the end, it did not have any advantages for this build over the use of a Rpi4b.
It seems impossible to get the boot images in landscape modus on the Waveshare 11.9” touch display with an Rpi5.
I have tried a lot of tweeks mentioned in this community, none of them solved the boot screen problem. If anyone has ideas to solve this, please let me know. I would be very happy when this could be solved. With a Rpi4b this problem is non existent. The next project I will use a Rpi4b.
The 11.9” HDMI Waveshare touchscreen works like a charme. The Hifiberry DAC+ was easy to install and sounds simply good. Not state of the art, but fine. It is playing on a Rotel RSX-1058 Receiver and a set of Monitor Audio 200 speakers.
The original Rotel DVD 5V-power supply was used to feed the touchscreen and power switch LED.
Double Talema 2x7V high end toroidal audio transformers feed a double Studer 900 Ultra low noise lineair power supply. Over a 5V-10A super capacitor filter board the Rpi5 and Hifiberry DAC+ are powered.
A 1 Gb external HD is used for storage of the local FLAC files.
The screensaver is a custom PeppyMeter/Spectrum design. Using modified parts of base images of the @Gelo5 designs. These are great and there are a lot of them to choose from. Great work to provide the community with these numerous designs!
It was a fast not to difficult build and I am happy with the result fitting in just fine on the Rotel receiver.
