Hi,
I’m running Volumio on an RPI4 outputting via HDMI into my Anthem MRX740. I have automatic updates enabled and am currently on the latest version (3.795).
I first installed Volumio on the 16th March, linked up to Tidal, and away I went. Default settings all around (noting here that Volume Options and Audio Resampling were untouched). At the time it sounded great and was responsive via Tidal Connect; exactly what I was looking for.
I haven’t used my system much for the last week or so, but I sat down to listen this evening. I now hear distortion/clipping, as though the output is being over driven.
I’ve read around other users with similar issues and have so far tried: adjusting Audio Resampling and Volume Options, checked I’m on latest version, checked the HDMI cable and connections, and restarted the RPI. Only adjustment which seems to resolve the issue is reducing the volume output to 70 max.
My issue is two fold:
- It didn’t do this on first installation.
- It’s subjective, but I don’t think it sounds as good now I’ve adjusted the output (subtly compressed?).
Only point of note is the RPI is warm now since it has been powered (by the standard provided RPI power supply) since Volumio was installed. I think it’s logical to assume it wouldn’t have had much heat in the unit when first installed. That said, I wouldn’t say it’s particularly warm to point where I think it would create an issue.
Help to resolve would be much appreciated!
Thomas
