CX070PI-B-V2 no audio

Hi there,
I had this nice little device here and it came to my mind it might be a nice audio player.

This device can be found with many brand names but at the end they all have the samt type number CX070PI-B. Mine is a v2.
Setup was smoothe but I can not get it to output any audio.
I checked raspi-config for audio setup.

No matter what device I choose it remains silent.

Anybody here having a similar device got running?

Hello,
Here you are in Volumio community.
It seems you are not running Volumio in your device.
We can’t help you …
If you plan to use it, first install Volumio and come back to explain/ask.
Thanks

I am not? How do you come to this conclusion? Did you see the screenshot?

Your showing a screenshot of raspi-config. Audio is configured within Volumio, not via raspi-config.
Hence the ask.

And since we’re at it.
Without any usefull information, we can’t support you.
All we know so far is that you have a screen

Well, I’d love to give more and usefull information.

A log report might be a good point to start.

I opened the device and took a photo.

This is not only a display but a complete case. It came with the Raspi 3b preinstalled. I used it with an older 3D printer running Klipper. Doing so I only ever used ethernet, USB-A (all connected to the Pi directly) and power.
On the right side one can see an add-on board (labeled CX-Port-V2) with a 3,5 mm audio jack, HDMI port, USB-C port and a power jack.
The product description says it has build in speakers. Took me a while to find these but in fact there are some very tiny speakers hidden in the top area of the case.
In Volumios playback options I see three devices.

  • HDMI out
  • Headphones
  • vc4-hdmi

Switching between these never makes any sound coming out. Neither from the build in speakers nor the attached speakers.
The only sound I hear is when the screen goes off after the timeout set in Toch Display plugin. That does a tiny “pop”.

Is there anything else I can provide?

Yeah I am afraid that Audio will be a problem. Due to the fact that there is a custom trick applied to extract it from a HDMI port and not from the 3.5mm jack on the rPi3.
There are no drivers (read DAC), so it can’t be configured within Volumio.

You might want to add a USB DAC or HAT. (Having the same issue with a Freenove case)

That doesn’t sound good at all. Where did you get that information regarding the custom HDMI extraction trick?

From your screenshot.
The 3.5mm jack on the rpi3 is not connected, but magically there is a 3.5mm jack on the right board.
Since GPIO has no audio, it can only come from the HDMI port.

I see.
There is an HDMI output option in Volumio selectable. Same as in raspi-config. Unfortunately this does not to work with Volumio.
I popped in another SD-Card with moOde installed. That one worked out of the box.
Weird.
