clean out/wipe SDHC card the linux way?

Dear forum members,
What is the best way to renew a SDHC card with Linux. I’m using Etcher on Xubuntu to burn the volumio image. That seems to work fine. But I want to be sure that no remnants stay behind.
That is why I wondered. Until now I used the disks program to delete the partitions. But what is a sure way to go?

Deleting partitions is usually sufficient for clearing out an sd card, but if you really want to remove all traces of data then you should try the utility ‘dd’
