Can't reach outside the local network

Volumio version 3.703 on Rasberry Pi using the Volumio image.

Works perfectly on a local fileserver but does not see the outside internet.

The local fileserver is on the same 192.168.1.0/24 network.

The gateway is set correctly.

I can’t update software because I can’t reach the WAN.

Any suggestions what I’m doing wrong?

Does it have a valid DNS server address?
Does web radio work?

Typically if it’s on a DHCP assigned IP address from your local router, the router IP would be assigned as the DNS server and gateway address.

Thanks for your reply.

you prompted me to try again. Everything looked correct but in desperation I retyped all the IP numbers and now it works.

It must have been an invisible typo, perhaps in the gateway address. I will never know.

That usually points to a network or DNS issue rather than Volumio itself. Since local traffic works but WAN doesn’t, I’d first double-check DNS settings. Try manually https://tropical-casino.com setting DNS to something like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 in the network config. Also make sure there’s no firewall or router rule blocking outbound traffic from the Pi. If you’re using Ethernet, test with Wi-Fi or vice versa. Lastly, confirm the router is actually providing internet access to other devices on the same subnet.

thanks for your very sensible hints… although I had done all of those. In the end I’m pretty sure there was some invisible typo since I retyped all the addresses and now it works. As far as I can see I changed nothing, but obviously i must have changed something. Perhaps an “I” instead of a 1 in the gateway address? I will never know.
