Cant get raspberry pi to connect to computer to share music folder

hi
bit of a newbie question
i have volumio on a rasberry pi 4 all works fine
and i can can control it from my phone install plugins etc
i want to connect the pi to my pc which has a shared folder on it
(which i can access wirelessly via my laptop using the folder user name and password)
but i cant seem to get it to share to the pi ?
is this possible or do i need NAS box to connect it to
many thanks in advance Glenn

You need to give more explanation.
When you talk about sharing, who is the source (who holds the share)? Your PC or the rPi?

my pc has the folder which is set to share (everyone)
i can connect my laptop wirelessly and play the files on my laptop from my pc so i know the share works on my pc to laptop
what i want to know is rather than having usb pen drives in the pi to play music from can i connect the pi to my pc to play music stored on a drive on my pc over the network?

Then you need to setup a share in Volumio to your computer in sources.
You need to enable Samba or NFS in “Turn Windows features on/off”

And setup a new connection in Volumio:

had a go and i think im almost there but still cant see folder on pi

this is the folder i want to share

Euh… You’re creative

You have an IP address and a path to your shared folder.
So your PC is on 192.168.1.8 and the shared folder is called MEDIA?
It should look something like this:

Under advanced option, you can most likely select CIFS and use the username and password, to access this share.

cool that has worked
many thanks

Thanks for reporting back!!

Enjoy your music.
