Bit-depth bug for mp3 and wma

I mostly listen to FLAC files. When playing them, Volumio UI correctly displays the encoded bit depth and sample rate of each file on the playback page. However, when I’m playing mp3 or wma, the bit depths are always shown incorrectly. It is trying to tell me that every MP3 I own is now 24 bit, and my lousy old WMA files are 32 bit (lol)! I have resampling turned OFF in settings. The sample rates are still shown correctly at 44.1

Setup is Pi->Kali->Generic i2s DAC
Using latest build 2.389

I assume it is just a bug with the way the file info gets displayed…unless Hal has taken over and really is resampling against my will!

IMHO this is not really a bug, but a ‘feature’ generated by the way Rapberry/Volumio handles MP3s. The MP3 decoding takes place in the VideoCore hardware of the Broadcom CPU chip - and this always generates a 24 bit wide data streams to the following units, e.g. DAC / Toslink …
The 24 bit information is true for the data stream, but not true for the content - the 8 LSBs are not relevant.
