Try
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus,slave
OK never mind. Appreciate everyoneās help but this avenue is just not worth the effort. Iām going to shitcan the PI5 & AMOLED combination and go back to the RPI4 & HiFiBerry Amp2 or DAC2 HD and teh TFT 5" DSI screen. I know all that works together - previously had it all working smooth as silk under Ropiee and PcP.
If you place this value ādtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus,slaveā in the config.txt and then select and safe HIFIBerry dac2 HD, the value you entered in the config.txt will be overwritten.
why not just select hifiberry dac plus under i2sā¦
I could be wrong but thatās what I see.
Well, on a total fresh install on a bare Pi4 with nothing but the HiFi Berry cards, āDAC-Plusā works for the DAC2 and āAmpā works for the Amp2.
Waiting to hear back from Volumio support on why Amp2 does not equal Amp2 and DAC-Plus = DAC2.
Iām concerned about putting something kludged like this into my project and then having to keep messing it with it down the road. Sad thing is PCP is so much easier when it comes to hardware and you can plug in almost ANY DAC and it just works.
You may try fresh install, then OTA update, make sure you have sound output, then install peppyscreensaver.
Or You can try older volumio image ( eg. 3.661 )
Itās difficult to help when you write about RPi 4 in the thread about RPi 5. Nobody knows what card you have? Everything is mixed up.
In the thread you wrote that you canāt update OTA. I gave you the solution. I thought you had everything running and just wanted to upgrade.
There are issues with certain kernel versions and Hifiberry.
As solution Volumio rolled back the kernel to a lower version in the Beta channel.
-
Disable your plugins
-
Enable test
<your ip address/dev>
-
Perform OTA
-
Disable Test
<your ip address/dev>
And test again. If errors:
Add to the /boot/userconfig.txt:
dtparam=i2c_arm_baudrate=1000000
Apologize - a few steps up I posted that I was giving up on any combination of the Pi5 since the only reason I forked in that direction was to try to get the AMOLED screen to work with reasonable performance.
Currently have a āstockā build of Volumio working with NowPlaying and Peppy on one of my Pi4ās with the Amp2 and selecting āAmpā in the Playback options. (Iāve been using 2 Pi4ās to eliminate any chance of hardware based failure). Not sure what the risk is doing this long term or if thereās a performance hit in doing so.
Iāll probably try one more time on the other Pi4 to see if I can get a vanilla install of everything working with the DAC2 with the process Wheaten described but if i doesnāt work then Iāll either make the combination of the Pi4 and Amp2 using āAmpā selection work or move back to PcP or RoPiee and just settle for that.
Thanks again for all your help (and the community) but I think this is something Volumio should address in my Support ticket to them since this is a paid service.
Do not give up! It definitely works, you make a mistake somewhere and you get angry.
You wrote somewhere that you have a USB DAC. You already know how to upload everything - your problem is to start cooperation with the DAC. Run RPi 5 again, upload programs/plugins. Disable I2S. Select your Dac from the drop down list. Everything should work correctly.
That was a separate post to see if I could get a different DAC to work since I was striking out with my HiFiBerry DAC and Amp. It was an effort to validate that the Pi hardware was in fact working and wasnāt an underlying issue for all the problems Iāve been running in to Now I know itās because I misinterpreted a post I read.
Just the effort it took to get that 5.5 AMOLED working stand alone with the Pi5 (before I added any audio hardware) was a nightmare and I didnāt document all the different steps I had to take (and undo/redo) to get it basic functionality. I understand the Pi5 is less than a year old and in the āPi Worldā it might as well be brand new. Iāll give Volumio (and all the other developers) a couple more years to figure out basic functionality. The only reason I dusted off the Pi5 was to see if the display performance on the AMOLED was better than the Pi4 (it was - by miles) but it came with too much baggage on getting other stuff to work so the trade off isnāt worth it (to me).
