Audio over HDMI not working on Raspberry Pi 4B

Hi,
I’m trying to play music from Volumio on a soundbar with HDMI ARC Input. When I set the output from Audio Jack to HDMI on the GUI, nothing seems to change. Volumio is still playing over the Audio Jack while HDMI is silent. Updating to the latest version didn’t help. Would be grateful for any clues.

Hi,
i have a similar issue.
Tried to connect my Raspberry Pi to my Lyngdorf Amp over HDMI but it does not work.
Guess, the Raspberry simply has no HDMI ARC Output.
If anyone knows better, please let us know
Best regards

I just built raspberry pi 4 with latest voluminous. Couldn’t get any sound over hdmi into the HDMI input of my onkyo amp.
Switched the hdmi cable to the HDMI input on my Sony bravia TV.
Again, no sound (I thought).
Normal TV listening volume is about 12-14. I found that I WAS getting audio over this connection from the pi, but I had to turn the volume setting on the TV to over 90 to hear anything.
So it looks like it does work, but output level is ridiculously low

@DavidT was that your final conclusion? I have a similar case which I’m documenting here Raspberrypi HDMI audio via ARC so far without any luck. Tldr; radio with a HDMI arc audio input, which I’d like to attach a RPI to via the HDMI audio output.

I’ve now replaced my old (16+ yrs) Onkyo AV receiver with a Denon S600. This has built in wifi, dlna support, voice control, so I can now dispense with a Google Chromecast device, and an optical to digital coax converter .
Haven’t yet trioed outputting via HDMI from Pi/Volumio to the receiver to see if its working.
BTW the Denon also comes with HEOS music support, where I can go to using my NAS music content (which Volumio was outputting to the hifi) to allowing HEOS to access the NAS content via DLNA to play on the receiver.
AND I can set the receiver to output music via bleutooth to my Sony headphones! Not the best quality, but great for private listening
