Audio Chromecast capability?

Hi

Just discovering that great tool that Volumio is but I’m pretty disappointed by one point. As it’s compatible with AirPlay I expected it to be compatible too with Google Cast system but it’s not ! I’m only Android at home and so makes Volumio pretty disappointing for that.
is it planned in near future ? or any tricks that would allow to add that feature to existing Volumio ? Had a look at plugins but found nothing too !

I think you missed the actual purpose of Volumio; being (one of) the best players (or client or endpoint or renderer or whatever tou want to call it) around.

Volumio is not intended (although it works for some cases depending on plugins) to be a music distributer or realtime converter/streamer.

It is all about playing your digital music through an amplifier. Feeding it an analog or digital signal., so you could say it is all about feeding your D/A conversion unit.

Sorry, @PatrickB, I don’t share that giving Chromecast audio support (which allows you to listen your music every where in your house due to the multi room support) will change the purpose of Volumio. I am still playing my digital music. But, my AMP doesn’t allow me to do it everywhere.

I really don’think that is the point, col. No one is saying that a plugin couldn’t be produced, and I’m sure that we would all encourage anyone taking on the role … it just isn’t a central part of Volumio’s intended delivery system. It’s one for the wish list, I guess :slight_smile:.

Even if you wanted to, I don’t think it’s possible. There used to be open source libraries that implemented the chromecast server protocols but Google now require hardware drm to generate the necessary cryptographic keys https://github.com/dz0ny/leapcast/issues/130
