Picked up a deskpi pro case to use with volumio 3 thinking oh nice case for a hifi thing etc. What a mistake that was. The case might look lovely but support is, well, it begins with “sh” and rhymes with night. Got the USB/SSD side working but the fan and the power button are a non starter so far.
If you have one and can shed any light on how or if you got it working.
thanks for sharing but very familiar with that and unfortunately its not - useful. they’ve all but deserted support as far as I can tell and they have done anything for volumio since version 2. Just hoping someone has had more patience than me. Should have researched more because if i had i wouldnt touch this case with a barge pole for the use in mind (volumio)
That’s a shame, the whole Pi layout and structure is a bit flimsy with ports on all sides so it would be nice to get a solid feeling useable hi-fi case. Amazing how hard it is to even install an on/off switch.
I got the official 7" touch display and case, case plastic and still messy where the cables come out and disrupt playback if you touch them or bump them. before that I got the Flirc case from amazon, good and cheap for a hidden setup.
Shame there aren’t many good affordable hi-fi brand streamers to replace the Pi with.
I have two of these. One runs Volumio and one MoOde. I think the issue is primarily the base OS version in use by Volumio. It’s too old whereas the version in use on MoOde is more up to date. Volumio also has a tendency to stick with older OS versions for much longer than MoOde.
I managed to get the deskpi support working fine on MoOde and had issues on Volumio. I did get the fan to work a bit for me but its not consistent. Gave up in the end. Same for the power button to auto-power off and the network and power LEDs at the front. They will not disable. In MoOde they have a UI setting to turn them off for you.
volumio@volumio:~$ uname -a
Linux volumio 6.1.69-v7l+ #1710 SMP Thu Dec 21 13:17:38 GMT 2023 armv7l GNU/Linux
volumio@volumio:~$ cat /etc/debian_version
10.13
cormac@moode:~ $ uname -a
Linux moode 6.6.51+rpt-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.6.51-1+rpt3 (2024-10-08) aarch64 GNU/Linux
cormac@moode:~ $ cat /etc/debian_version
12.5
I would suggest you try MoOde unless you are locked into using Volumio. Of the two systems, I actually prefer MoOde to be honest. I find it more consistent, more reliable and a better way to manage the playback on its UI.
