…on how to sort files in Volumio. I always browse via Genres=>Artists=>Albums and, while Genres are sorted fine, in alphabetical order, the next level, Artists, appears funky. Firstly, it starts with all albums within a genre, sorted without apparent logic – certainly not in alphabetical order-, and is then followed by Artists, similarly (un)sorted.
I must not be finding the correct setting to choose alphabetical sorting -and to start the list within Genres with Artists and not albums- so I’ll be very thankful for any hints on how to do so.
A couple of possible issues:
- Are your tags proper populated, as volumio use them to display data?
- Have you proper identify albums with various artists?
- Please check the way you sort albums
Thanks for the response. I don’t think that there’s an issue with the tags since Foobar or iOS app have normal sorting using the same files.
I looked deeper into it and it seems that the issue is in that Volumio reads parent folders and lists the artists/albums sequentially if they are not within the same parent folder.
E.g., say there’s a folder called Music; and within Music there are folders called Mp3 and Flac. Within folder Mp3 there are files whose artist/album/genre are Jackson/Thriller/Pop and Fleetwood Mac/Rumours/Pop, while in the folder Flac there are Jackson/Bad/Pop and Adele/25/Pop, the list under Genre would show first the list of albumes:
Rumours
Thriller
25
Bad
followed by the list of artists:
Fleetwood Mac
Jackson
Adele
I’d assume that many of us keep same artist/genre files in different folders and would be helpful if Volumio, similar to Foobar et al. would sort albums and artists by their name, not the position within the parent folder and if, if one is sorting and using Genre, artists appeared first (and albums in alphabetical order -if desired- further down; there’ll always be more albums than artists so easier to start with the shorter list).
Thank you!
