Airplay stutter fix!

Hi after dumping Spotify because of its lousy parent controls I switched to Apple Music (after checking out the equally lousy parent controls on Tidal and Qobuz).

Mostly a good service but the Airplay way of playing to connected devices is a bit limiting compared with Spotify Connect and I found the playback was jittery on my USBridge signature with wired connection.

I tried replacing the built-in Raspberry Pi CM3 board with Raspberry Pi CM4 with loads more RAM (at quite considerable cost), switching power supplies, swapping network cables to better shielded ones, adding a ethernet switch rather than using the routers cheap inbuilt one, etc etc.

In the end, after about 6 months, it dawned on me that it could be the iPhone or Macs connection to the network via Wifi! It’s the 5Ghz connection that’s buggy and using 2.4Ghz fixed the problem.

Unfortunately it’s difficult to select a 2.4Ghz over 5Ghz as the devices auto connect and routers often offer both over the same SSID - so this is what I did. I got an old router, plugged it into the network, went into the router system settings and switched off the 5Ghz option. Then I connect to that dedicated WiFi access point when I want to use Airplay and bingo!

I thought I’d share this so anyone else out there doesn’t go through the same frustrating experience!

Seem to be working a bit better now, I have also been having this problems for months, btw have you ever noticed a background noise? Like vinyl but only after the stutters occur

No not heard thar
