Adding power switch between Rivo Plus and Volumio Settings doesn't work

Volumio Version: 3
Hardware: Rivo Plus
DAC: Gustard X26 III

Adding a power switch to the Rivo Plus and set in Volumio Hardware Settings “Auto Power ON” to “ON” the device won’t start.
What i see is that a blue led inside the device is working, prob. the wifi but the button on the front doesn’t lid.
When i set the Power to OFF it works but than i have to manually push the button on the front.

we’ve tried on our test devices and the auto-boot functionality works fine.

could you please provide a system log and check if the problem occurs removing the power switch (connect directly the PSU to the RivoPlus?

  1. enable auto-boot
  2. save and shutdown the device
  3. disconnect the PSU
  4. connect the PSU and verify if the device starts automatically: the LED should change from red to green without pressing the push-button on the front

Bug report send.
Rivo Plus will power up when Enabled only after several times use the power plug in and out.

could you paste the link of the system log?

did you try with the power switch excluded from the equation?

Yes i send in the log files to support.

Yes. After 2 or 3 attempts it’s powering on but not on the first time.
I see only a blue led from the inside and no red dot of the power button.

submitting the the log only is not enough, we need the log link to retrieve it among the others

anyhow, better to proceed with a ticket to our customer support team
@Marco_Melziade

I did as stated in your feedback.
I submitted the log link through Volumio Help Center.

OK, perfect, our support team will follow up from there

Can you tell me how much power the Rivo Plus actually draws when only using standard streaming through I2S, No upsampling and WiFi on ?

Maybe it’s a faulty power adapter. I have a very accurate power supply which i use for my other streamer but it can only handle 5V/1.5A.
But if the Rivo Plus is below this i can do some checks also with the power adapter.

5.1V / 1.5A is just on the edge, if the device is used with I2S output and no WiFi.

the CPU can draw quite some current during boot, but you can give it a try.

besides that, there is a new OS version with a potential fix for your issue with automatic boot not always working.

Please try to enable test mode and update to the version 3.882. After the reboot, the MCU firmware will be updated as well (LED will turn OFF for a few seconds, the come back ON when done).

After the new MCU firmware is in place, please give it a try.

Thanks Darmus,
I’ll try first the test version.
If it don’t fix the issue i use my linear power supply (it’s heat protected as well, so should be fine for only boot).

Hello Darmur,

I enable test mode (dev page) but updating to version 3.882 isn’t possible, it says i already have the latest version.

Hello Darmur,

So i tested it this weekend.
The power supply should be OK, it happens even with an other power supply.
Actually it happens even when set “Auto Power On” to OFF.
So in both settings the Rivo Plus will NOT start at first attempt, although i see a blue light from the inside (right side).

It should be an Software issue or i have a faulty device but this is unacceptable for such an expensive device. This means i have to leave it ON (after several attempts it will) but i don’t want to leave my linear power supply all the time ON.

Can you tell me why i can’t update to a beta version ?
In DEV i set " Plugins Test Mode" to “True”, although i don’t get an information that it is set, is this normal ?

hi, you must set the update channel selection to test

if after the update the problem is not solved, please proceed the discussion with the customer support team to organize a RMA under warranty

Thanks, updating now and will test it this afternoon several times.

Thanks Darmur !

I think the new beta software is fixing my problem.

Thanks !

thanks for confirming the fix is effective!

this was a tough one for us to reproduce, because the problem appeared in a very small amount of units and only in some specific circumstances.

we had some hypothesis about the root-cause, luckily the assumption was correct and the related fix is effective.

Short question … I get a popup of a new firmware for my Rivo Plus, is this “problem” also included as a fix ?

the MCU firmware was updated in the version 3.882, the same MCU firmware is also included in all the images newer than 3.882.
