First timer. Setup: RPI B, 16 GB microSD card w/adapter, HDMI to monitor, wired Ethernet. Used RPI Imager on Linux to select Volumio and Raspberry Pi B. Image boots, and I see the opening Volumio screen animation. All LEDs come on, and it says it finished storage preparations, please wait for startup to finish. Then the screen goes out, the Ethernet lights go out, and eventually I’m left with just the red LED. Very consistent. Thinking it might be a power issue, I’ve tried several 1 and 2 amp solutions, and settled on a source that says it can source 30 W. Most it ever gets to is 3-4 W. I’ve tried it with and without USB keyboards attached, reprogrammed the card several times, with and without WiFi parameters (it’s hard wired to the router). Two different RPI B boards. Tried a PiZero W, but I don’t have a mini HDMI to see the screen output, so all I know is that it never shows up on my network.
Just trying to setup up some audio players that are wired Ethernet and make use of some hardware that’s gathering dust…the connection spot for audio does not get good WiFi.
Yes, I unzipped the image ;).
For what it’s worth, I found version 1.55 on SourceForge, got it to boot up, and after configuring the hardware to force the audio to use the 1/8" jack, it plays. So the hardware’s good, the programming process seems good.
Back to 3.886 (or 4.073), the animation’s cool and all, but is there a way to get a console while it’s starting up to see what’s going on?
ng on?
Thanks. This boots and starts up. I can see the mDNS broadcasts for the AirTunes Remote Audio and _Volumio._tcp. The router sees it and assigns the reserved address I’ve given it. But there’s no http response at the IP address. A fair number of concerning messages in the journal, including some failures of the volumio service, but not a lot of detail. I briefly tried to capture it using ssh to post here, but it wasn’t set up for password authentication, AFAICT.
Unless there’s a glaring security problem with 1.55, I’m inclined to run with it, enjoy a bit of music over Christmas, and come back after the holiday, perhaps with better hardware.
Thanks to all who have helped, I’m truly impressed by the number and speed of the responses here!
