Which hotspot? Volumio or iPhone?

I’ve set up a Pi W with Phat DAC that I want to use at work with an old JBL speaker dock. I won’t be able to use work’s WiFi, so want the use my iphone’s Internet. Everything worked fine using WiFi at home but things weren’t so good at work. When I used the volumio’s hotspot could airplay music from my phone but the music had to be downloaded first, I couldn’t stream from Apple Music as the phone was looking for internet from the Volumio hotspot. WiFi assist is turned on the phone. I then tried to use the phone’s hotspot but couldn’t get Volumio to connect to the phone. It seemed to connect for a second then give up.

Any suggestions?

I never did get to use the iPhone’s hotspot as volumio would keep disconnecting after a few seconds. I did get the Volumio hotspot to work though, I can’t remember how though,
