Volumio not displaying Album or Playlists views

Could someone help me with a Volumio problem I am experiencing before I submit a bug report? I am building a standalone FLAC player for my brother. My configuration is a RBPi V3 Model B, HiFiBerry DAC+, powered USB hub with a 2TB USB-powered 2TB Seagate hard drive and Volumio V2.452. The library on the drive is a well tagged and widely used library on other music server systems (e.g. PicoPlayer/LMS and RuneAudio).

So here’s my problem. Volumio will not display the ALBUMS or Playlists views - the windows just remains blank. The FLAC-only library contains only 1 artist, 3873 albums, and 79225 tracks. Other views seem to work find. I can see partial UI views into the library, by YEAR for example. Playlist output is blank although each show folder contains a .M3U file. Interestingly if I load PiCorePlayer or RuneAudio on that exact configuration all works fine. FWIW, when browsing to the ALBUMS view the progress bar on top of the browser windows moves steadily across from left to right and stops just before finishing at about 98R% and stays there and never goes fully across to 100% (and the view stays blank). Also, I did let the blank ALBUMS display sit overnight and it never gets updated - so I did try waiting a long time to see if the display request would ever get fulfilled. I also checked the volumio .log file and nothing was in there of interest. Also, if I browse “Music Library” I can navigate my USB drive and see everything fine. One last thing, I did drop back to Volumio v2.444 to see if this was a regression - but it is not. Same issues. It is a big library but other audio servers host it no problem.

Could someone kindly suggest some things to try or enable debugging/logging so I can better diagnose this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Glenn

Hi Glenn,
we’re looking into this. Expect a fix in the next releases

Thank you for letting me know. How far off do you expect that release to be?

Just released the fixes (2.457) please let us know if that fixes it for you

Yes/no. The browse views of Albums and Playlists are working again. Thanks! But the revolving browse scan indicator (on the BROWSE tab) never stops turning. Its been over 12 hours …its still revolving around like its scanning the music source. Looking at the My Music view/stats the scan was done a long time ago - but did take a while to scan the 2TB HD. (Might want to look into improving scan performance in the future.)

Thanks for the quick fix. Hopefully you can fix the remaining issue mentioned above.

Glenn

I just want to add that the displaying of the Album or Playlist views is VERY slow. Once the media is scanned - isn’t the library info cached? The displaying of the tag data show be fast at this point. This is really a problem for usability. Responsiveness of the UI is very important to navigate a large library. Any chance of this getting resolved?

Glenn

How many items do you have in your library?

It’s in my original post; "FLAC-only library contains only 1 artist, 3873 albums, and 79225 tracks. "

The Browse tab scan indicator is still spinning 2 days later… but My Music shows the correct number of albums/tracks.

The spinning icon is not working properly… I am trying to fix it.
If you see the correct album number, then scanning has done its job

I agree the scan worked properly and the icon state is just not being changed at the end of the scan. It would be appreciated if you could look into performance improvements in displaying the Albums and Playlists UI views with large libraries like mine and being able to react the UI input quicker (i.e. scroll/select). Its slower than one would desire. Thanks for your time and help michelangelo.

Any chance of getting a fix for the browse icon that never stops turning ( that broke after the original post problem was fixed in Ver 2.457?

It would be greatly appreciated.
