Volumio freezes when playing radio or Spotify

Hi,
First of all - welcome everyone and thanks for doing such a great work - not saying that often but I really appreciate that such thing as Volumio even exists . Was looking for an alternative when discovered that my AudioCast M5 is sending almost 2k queries to chinese servers (i.e. baidu) every hour…

Nevertheless… What I am experiencing is Volumio (2.565) freezing after an hour or two of playback. It happens both using Spotify via volspotconnect2 (0.9.0 installed from git as I was not able to launch 0.9.1 that was there by default) or webradio.
It happens that music is stuck and just repeats the same sound over and over again or just stops responding to play/stop commands.

Here’s the part of log that I think was captured during this issue. Only a single device was using Volumio at that time.

If you have any ideas how to fix this, I would be grateful but please treat me as a Linux newbie (won’t be offended!) :slight_smile:

this time on/off on volspotconnect2 helped and no reboot was necessary but a couple of hours ago it froze again playing the same sound over and over again (site not reachable).

I tried 3 different SD cards and 2 different chargers (running pi zero w with phat dac so I don’t believe this setup drains that much power).

The Vortexbox solution from which I’m migrating doesn’t do this, so I have been tinkering with various feeds for my Volumio set-up (x86 + USB DAC) and haven’t experienced it. My question is whether the people who have it are using RPis or whether anyone else with an x86 renderer has experienced it.

The most reliable radio feed I have is NRK Jazz lyd.nrk.no/nrk_radio_jazz_aac_h and that played for at least 24 h before it quit - and let’s face it, stations now and then drop out or reset their queues. The experiences I have read about here quit far sooner.

I’m now at 19 hr playing .flac and .wav files from local storage and not a single glitch.

Can the issue be the RPi?

Do people have the issue playing from a NAS? If so I will try that next.

Your logs don’t show anything abnormal right off - but your symptoms seem to look like the process hung. Can you connect to your device via ssh, with the webUI open and playing some radio stream check how much free RAM you have?

I do not know if it will be the same problem, but I happen to cut the broadcast using the RadioParadise flac plugin, there are several posts about this.
The RP Plugin what it does is add a web address in a playlist using mpc. Randomly the playlist is deleted and of course it stops playing. All this can be seen using mpc commands.
The same problem is in LMS with the RP plugin. In the forums of LMS they are very disoriented and the idea of a problem in Raspberry gains weight. To complicate matters further, there are users who report having no problems.
All this exceeds my knowledge, but I am disappointed that RP does not work in Volumio.
