Before i update i would like to clearify if the DSD128 issues which had been present in some earlier versions had been solved. I have a lot of DSD files and don’t want to start with workarounds.

I upgraded my Rivo Plus to Volumio 4.185 today. The upgrade itself completed successfully, but unfortunately playback performance has seriously degraded since the update.
My normal setup for approximately the past monts has been:
Rivo Plus → USB → Denafrips Pontus 15th Anniversary
Before the update this configuration was completely stable. PCM including high-resolution files played smoothly, and DSD playback worked without problems.
Immediately after upgrading to 4.185 I am experiencing:
Small but clearly audible gaps/dropouts during playback, particularly with higher-resolution files.
DSD playback appears to be impossible. Selecting a DSD track and pressing Play does not start playback.
I also tested the HDMI/I²S output to the Pontus. Performance there seems even worse, although USB has been my normal connection and therefore provides the most meaningful before/after comparison.
Standard-resolution material seems less affected, but playback is no longer reliably smooth.
Nothing in the hardware configuration, DAC, USB connection or network was changed—the problems appeared immediately after the 4.185 upgrade.
Earlier today I also experienced the reported update problem where the download remained at 99% and the HDMI interface displayed “Could not start update, please try again.” After that issue was resolved, I eventually allowed the update again and 4.185 installed successfully.
I have now disabled Automatic Updates.
Has anyone else experienced USB playback dropouts, problems with Hi-Res playback, or DSD failing to start on Rivo/Rivo Plus after upgrading to 4.185?
I am happy to provide logs or perform specific tests if this would help diagnose the problem
Update:
I found something potentially important. I had the Fusion DSP plugin installed. After uninstalling Fusion DSP, playback performance improved dramatically.
With Rivo Plus → USB → Denafrips Pontus 15th, PCM playback now appears to be smooth and the small gaps/dropouts seem to have disappeared. DSD playback also starts normally again.
So far, the only clear remaining problem I have found is DSD512, which still has playback gaps.
I have not yet tested all PCM sample rates and DSD64/128/256 extensively enough to say with certainty that everything below DSD512 is completely problem-free, but initial testing is very encouraging.
This suggests that at least a significant part of the problem may be related to Fusion DSP compatibility with 4.185, rather than a general USB playback problem in 4.185.
I will continue testing with Fusion DSP uninstalled and report back if I find further issues.
Clear your cache
After restarting and only via the check updates interface it worked. I am using a fixed IP. Maybe that caused it. I couldn’t log in to Tidal either with the app. Redirect error. That only worked on desktop.
Rivo with 4.185, why do I get the option for Hardware Volume Control on Rivo, when Rivo itself does not offer a hardware volume control? In Volumio 3, I only used to get the options of None or Software. Is there a difference between setting the option to None or Hardware on the Rivo?
… my Rivo+ updated perfectly fine over night. Everything seems to work.
BIIIG (Qobuz) playlists open up much quicker now, though starting an individual track in big lists could still be faster. Well, we still have some versions left until we reach EOL at v4.9 I guess.

No, this is just a configuration glitch that we will be fixing. Thanks for the report!
If you are using Rivo+ (Roon) with Ferrum Wandla make sure to change the settings to:
under “General Playback Options”.
After that the FSCT-Plugin shows up again:
The current SW update (4.185) breaks the settings so you will have to do the above.
My Rivo was updated to 4.185 last night. Successfully, I think. But one MAJOR issue for me - there is no Roon Bridge plugin available in plugins list!? How can I install Roon Bridge on Volumio 4? Any chance to sideload it if it’s missing in the download list?
After updating to Volumio 4 the sound is crackling every 10 or 15 seconds. My system is
Rivo plus - usb - Gustard u26 ddc - hdmi I2s - Gustard a26. I use Qobuz connect.
updated my Rivo+ to the new version 4.185. Everything works except that it no longer plays 24-bit-48,1 khz files. It works normally with 16-bit, MP3 and DSD.
The Rivo+ is connected to a Volumio Preciso via USB and the files are on a directly connected hard disk.
Before the update, everything worked fine.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.
Maybe I’m not getting something here because I’m not Roon proficient, but what do you need the plugin for, when Rivo can be Roon ready by activating the Roon Ready service under Sources? This has been true for some time now, even under Volumio V3.
Can you please try disabling FusionDSP and see if this resolves the issue?
We can’t reproduce the issue on our end, so I’ve sent your log to our dev team to take a look.
In the meantime, you can try enabling audio resampling to see if that solves it: menu → Playback Options → scroll all the way down to Audio Resampling → turn it on → set Target Bit Depth to 32.

Goran, you don’t need to install the Roon Bridge plugin. Rivo is natively Roon Ready, and it’s a far better setup than the Roon Bridge.
Just select Rivo from the output list of Roon and you’re golden

I updated my Rivo to 4.185 without problems. It sounds very good, many thanks to the Volumio team!
However, I noticed that some ripped CDs are now wrongly indexed, while they were indexed correctly until version 3. The culprit are .cue files. It seems my CD ripping software creates .cue files that the mpd version used now in Volumio 4 does not like (previous mpd versions were more tolerant). It is for this reason that Volumio does not support .cue files any longer. I once knew this, but I had forgotten, and before Volumio 4 it had not mattered for me.
If you do not need precise .cue info (such as multi index tracks, multi disk releases), it is easiest just to delete .cue files that mess up mpd’s indexing.
If you need to create a .cue file, I found the CUEsto software package quite useful. It runs on all major OS’s, is free, and allows you to create .cue files from Discogs releases.
I hope this is not OT, but I spent two hours today to find this out and I thought perhaps other new Volumio 4 users encounter the same problem.
