Volume at maximum after DAC switched off/on

Hi,

when switching my DAC off and on again, the volume in Volumio jumps to maximum.
This is a big problem for me, as my Pi4 is usually never switched off, but my DAC.
Any idea how this can be avoided? Seems like a bug to me.

Thanks a lot & best regards,
Michael

It’s best to leave the DAC switched on all the time. Better for your device and better for your ears. I only switch it off when I go at vacation. But I switch the streamer of in that case as well

Hi Vennesch,

yeah, it is not a problem when you never switch the DAC off, correct
But there are many use-cases, where never turning the DAC off is not useful.
Also, if you do not check the volume level and start to play something, you might blow your speakers, in the best case you may just get uncomfortable with wife or neighbours
So it would be great, if there was an solution for this issue.

Best regards,
Michael

The distribution, thinks a new USB is being connected, and defaults back to the hardware defaults.
In this case, Mixer: “None”.
If you have the need to turn your DAC off, do the same with rPi. In this case the sudden appearance of a USB device does not occur and triggers the distro to think there is a new device attached.
Off:

  • Shutdown the rPi
  • Shutdown the DAC

On:

  • Turn on the DAC
  • Turn on the rPi

I created a little plugin which keeps an eye on the volume and resets it in case the value is NaN or higher than a given threshold.
I will publish it when I did some more checks.

Yes, I noticed that too and I was extremely shocked…
Luckily nothing broke for me.
It would be very nice if it could be made so that the volume is set to mute or the default volume when switching on or connecting a USB DAC.
I would also very much welcome that.
