Been trying to boot two different PCs from SD Cards and getting errors.
i.e.

then just stays at - >

some hardware configurations is not supported correctly by bootloader (loose mount point) used in Volumio, try booting from USB flash and disable secure boot or enable legacy boot without UEFI
There can be a number of reasons for getting this error, mostly caused by lacking kernel support for specific storage devices.
In your case, flashing to an SD card would not be the issue (we do that all the time), but booting this from a built-in SD card reader (if supported at all by your BIOS) could very well be.
For the official X86 image, try the SD in a USB card reader (or flash to a USB drive or stick as @martinp suggested) and you should be ok.
